;)

i am actually seriously considering getting a
modular/semi-modular system.

just wish i had a lottery win. man i'd have to buy a fucking
house to store all the shit i'd buy

I want the aks. I don't think the ems synths were used much
in the Dr. Who show. It was mostly osc generators.

In spite of the fact the build quality is shite, it's
possible to cut yourself on the screws that stick through
the case and the sound isn't amazing, I have always fancied
one of these as a suitcase synth. Also has a pin
matrix rather than patch cables.

Impossible to justify, considering you could get an
Andromeda for that money.

i don't mean to be greedy but i've seen this synth in

love the sound.

custom built... do you know of any modifications, that are
recommended?

What I mean by custom build is they build them when you
place an order. That is what I heard tho, it could be a
totally different story in actuality.

Yeah. Originally, I was going to get the G2, but then I
started looking at the money I could save if I get the
rackmount nord lead 3, and I remember trying it once and
falling in love instantly, and thinking, I don't know if I
want to edit it on a computer, and thinking "with the money
I can save, I can get a: better mixer. tube compressor.
spring reverb. tape delay. less debt." and then I sold
myself on the nord lead 3. Not sure if I want rack or
keyboard, only $150 difference, so its more "space vs better
keyboard"

i love my Nord Lead 2x....kinda wish i'd have splashed out
on the Lead 3 with the endless rotaries and stuff, but it's
great nonetheless

i am seriously considering getting a Nord Modular G2
though....i really wanna get into modular synths, and i
think the G2 would give me a lot of flexibility

but i think i should shut up and master the stuff i already
have first! lol

Because I don't have as much money as you!!!! I've spoken to
a LOT of people who have the Nord and thought it was a bad
decision.

I don't have that much money.

Everybody I have talked to online and off have said that
nords were great purchases. Specifically the nord lead 3's
and modular g2's

There were some problems with the earlier nords. The new
ones are pure quality'

Its still analogue modelling. If you think you are getting a
real analogue sound, then look elsewhere. Thats what I have
come to hear.

I want a 909 an 808 an old rare sampler a korg stage echo
and a tascam 388. Maybe more than 3 grand actually.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2006-03-16 09:32 [#01861111]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker | Followup to bogala: #01860869

what kind of old rare sampler? one of the original emu
samplers will cost you about 1500 and the akai mpc3000 will
cost you 3200. However, you can get a prophet 2000 for
around $200, and its got an eight bit sampler and synthesis
capabilities too. An akai s900 or 950 are cheap too
(100-250).

The 909 and 808 together should run you about 2200-2600.
Thats a lot of money.

Well, going on the basis of my Ion, the Andromeda should
sound much more analogue than all the nords old and new that
I've tried.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2006-03-16 12:16 [#01861257]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker | Followup to futureimage: #01861203

Thats because the andromeda is analogue.

I am not looking for analogue per se. I am looking for a
nord lead 3.

(the ion is just modeling too. I can get the same sounds out
of my evolver, that I have heard.)

I know, I wish there were more ananlogue drum machones, but
the 808 and 909 can't be beat. I already have the 606. Not
to mention all those machines are beautiful to look at. I
want an old prophet 3000. Which also costs about a grand. I
already have an sh-5 and an mks-80/mpg-80

The Dr Who sounds are incredible. I think most of the
sounds were from old test generators. Not from a synthi. I
just need to get some old test oscillators and feed them
into the sh-5. Not sure how the oscillators sound on the
sh-5 as I need to pick it up still. I hope it has an old
70's sound.

JoMoX is pretty well known for making analogue drum
machines. Their xBase and AirBase drum machines, all
analogue circuitry, except for the cymbals, which are 8 bit
samples (similar to the 909) run through analogue filters.
They all range for around $1000.

They also have a bass drum machine, which is only good for
bass drums, but it runs about $400. All analogue fatness, a
la the 808.

Ok, ok. I guess it's your decision at the end of the day,
but I still think the Andromeda has a larger range of sounds
than the Nord.

I want more cheap drum machines!!!!

If I could afford the $300/month payments for financing, I
would get it. I almost did, but my good judgement rang in.
Annoying thing, that good judgement.

I have started a savings account. All my spare money is
going to be dedicated to getting me an andromeda in six
months time and I am even considering quiting smoking.
Seriously. The mpc2000, the andromeda and the nord lead
three are the three pieces of gear that inspired me to start
buying gear in the first place, and I am kind of set on the
last two (I have an mpc1k, which in my books is just as
good, just a little cheaper and space conservative than the
2k). I just don't make enough money to get them all at once
:S

I hate the sound of the xbase. I want to like it really bad.
But it sounds too muddy to me. I like the sound of the 909
and or 808 way better. They sparkle more.

you must be referring to the Travel BattleShip game that EMS

Have you tried an xbase? or are you going off of site
samples. Usually, the example mp3's are made without any
additional processing. All analogue stuff usually needs a
little bit of compression and filtering and eqing and
mastering to sound great...
