I'm buying a microKORG today!

I've made up my mind, and have been reading enough reviews.
I'm buying it today. Sure, it's more a toy than "my first
synth", but what the heck...I can take this in to bed and
knobble around with it...ehm
I'm also familiar with the small keys since I have a old
Yamaha Portasound FM Synth with the same style, though the
FM is not touch sensitive.
The modding should be endless with the program that follows,
but the pre-saved sounds should be terrible.

If you haven't made your purchase yet, I would warn you
against it, and instead look at the excelent sounding alesis
micron

(I sold mine. I thought it sounded 'cheap'. Poor filters and
such.)

Sure the presets are crap, but I own his big brother
MS2000(same oscillators) and you can get some cool sounds
from that.
Have fun! Tweak knobs! Drop some killer bass! Do the robot!

(I also have his granpa VC10 sitting in my home!)

I know....the micron...*sigh*

But it's more expensive, doesn't look nearly as interesting,
and needs extra microphone to use the vocoder.

Which one do you think i could get the best pad sound out
from?

First of all, the microKorg's a very good synth, but nowhere
near as good as the Micron, so see if you can get the Micron
instead. As I remember, they're about the same price
anyway!!!
The microKorg's microphone is crap anyway. I always end up
using my dynamic instead.
I saw a Micron in a clearance for £150. If I had £150, I
would have picked it up straight away even though I already
have the Ion.

The micron.

It should only be about $100 more. I really wish I had spent
the extra $100 when I bought the microkorg, because I ended
up loosing $250 off of the price I paid when I sold it.

I don't want to sound like a hater. The microkorg is better
than a couple other things I have, and a lot better than a
lot of the affordable gear out there. But it was my first
synthesizer, and I felt a bit burnt after getting to know it
and realizing most of its sonic potential. Its not that I
didn't get to know it well enough. I learnt it inside and
out, it just only made one or two sounds that I really
liked, and I could get those from my SH32.

honestly, you'd be much better off buying the better synth
(the micron) and picking out whatever microphone suits you
best... it's a win/win situation if you buy the micron.

Danish prices:
Alesis: £440
MicroKORG: £275

Sucks...
And I've bought a Fender Jazz Bass 24 which i'm getting
money back from because it sucked...and that's £550, but I
have to save some money for my electrical-bill

high power bill too? thats something I always have to fork
out a lot of cash for as well. If I were you, I'd wait until
next month and buy the alesis rather than buy the microkorg
now.

naaah fuck it...I'm buying the Microkorg...i'm gonna' effect
it up with my SP404 anyway, so it's moslty down to what I
like to have on my desk/liveset...I like the looks, the
cheap ass compact features and the fact that I have to tweak
to the max to get anything out of it...just my kinda'
instrument

Are you SURE that's not the ION instead of the MICRON???

no..im sure...we Danes have 20% sales taxes, and everything
is expensive, but we earn enough for it so..

i HAVE thought of importing overseas or something, but the
chance at custom sales tax and stuff, scares me away

GET THE MICRON

It seriously sounds fucking fantastic. Huuuge rubbery
squeaky phlegmy analoggy basses and leads.

yeah...but i'm such a cheapass...and £440 is a fucking lot
against MK's £275

WAIT A MINUTE!!! just found MS2000R at £220 used...If I
combine that with my M-Audio Ozone, I should have a good
pack...

Whattayouthink?

never used the MS2000 except for one time in a music store
for like 5 seconds years ago, before I knew anything about
synths. Seems like an ok price if you're alright with just
using the ozone as a controller.

"the fact that I have to tweak to the max to get anything
out of it...just my kinda' instrument"

Thats an admirable approach considering you're really going
to have to work to get the quality sounds out of it... but
what happens when you've squeezed everything out of it that
you can? Wouldn't you rather have a synth that is going to
produce some awesome sounds for a while with very little
effort on your part, and then can be pushed to the max once
those initial sounds grow old?

two words for that solution: effect pedal

what kind of effect pedal are we talking here? Yeah, you
might extend the life of a synth for a while with one of
those huge multi-fx pedals (though generally I don't like
the sound of the actual effects on those big units that try
to do it all). If you're planning on using just a delay
pedal or something, well, trust me that will get old pretty
fast too.

but it seems like you know what it is you're looking for,
for your setup, so I wont try to change your mind anymore, I
just don't like to see people throw down a lot of money and
not really be happy in the end.

vinyl-sim ...I also have a Bass-synth pedal and some other
shit

You have an SP-404? How is it? Cygnus was asking that
question a while back. I don't think he got an answer from
anybody.

It's nice...I have the 1GB CF card for it too, so it's
pretty awsome. Downsides are just that you have to have a
ground connecteion to make noiseless recordings when the AC
is on. With batteries it's clear as a whistle.
The effects are great...you can run anything trough that in
realtime, so that is really a bonus
