recommend me some good head phones. currently i'm having
some sony mdr-v500's but i think they are quite shit. i
don't like the sound of them. i had some vivanco head phones
(sr-606 or something) but they broke. they were cheaper then
these sonys but sounded muuuch better. what are your
experiences?

I've been looking for some new headphones too. I'm thinking
about getting these ones. Most all of the reviews
I've read for them are excellent and the price is about what
I'm willing to pay. I'm just afraid they're a bit too
stylish.

Grados are the most uncomfortable phones I have ever worn.
Sure they sound great. But,...I have the in-ear er-4
etymotic. THey sound even better. Totally isolated, but
putting them in my ears is a totally pain. Such a ritual. I
was thinking of getting some standard sony's. they were the
most comfortable. That, or get ear molds done for the
er-4's.

Get some AKG K240's like easterlingman said, they're pure
sex.

Bogala: Your avatar is just like what I get in my vision
when I get migraines, it makes me pretty nauseous as a
consequence as well.

yeah, what are you gonna use them for ? =D looking for as
honest sound as possible (studio headphones) ? or perhaps
you want "good sound, fat bass or something" (hifi) ? and
how much are you planning to pay ? I dont have much
experience with hifi headphones (at least no good
experiences...) but I know that studio headphones are really
really cheap nowdays.. ´myself have two pair of akg's, k171
and k271. happy with both but the 271 ones have a bit of an
better frequency balance and the stereo image is awsome imo.

basically i will use them for listening to music and for
music making. i'm not looking for portable style walking
around in city looking cool type of headphones, but i want
nice sound inside my head.

Sennheisers are laid back in sound. I've listened to the
Grado SR-80's that -V- recommended and it is quite
different. Very transparent;like sound coming from thin
air. You won't get good bass extension on those though. To
get powerful bass with Grado's you'd need to spend a bit
more, probably more than the top of the line Senn.
Beyerdynamic I've heard has headphones that can compare to
the best of Sennhesier.
I have Sennheiser HD-600's. They were the top of the line
Senn. for about 10 years before the HD-650 was made. I went
with them because the 650's have a couloured sound due to an
accentuation of mid-bass. 600's are flat response and
suitable for production/mixing (though I don't).
In the future I would like to try out some other headphones,
probably Grado RS-1's with an amp; many times more spendy
than the HD-600's so it won't be for a while.

On the phones I got Sennheiser has a minimum advertisable
price set for dealers, so the lowest advertised price is
$350, but online shops will often have an 'e-mail me a lower
price'. I got them for $280 from Headroom.

I would really like to try these
Beyerdynamic DT-880
but there is nowhere local that carries them.

i have grados sr80's. They sound class but i wouldn't
recomend them for music making, i don't think their response
is flat, they are open too which is a pain if you actually
want to wear them out since you sound like a ghetto blaster
and look like a helicopter pilot from MASH. Sennheiser seem
to be considered the standard i think, MX500's are
exceptionally good in ear headphones i use loads.

i've been looking at headphones because mine broke one on
(that's what you get for buying £25 Sony ones!)

those Beyerdynamics seem to be great, especially the
frequency response.

i think i may just end up saving up for some of those.

thanks everyone who posted - i was so close to
actually buying the Sony MDR-V700 MkII headphones, but i
think i'm gonna invest in decent headphones :D

they're a universal portable headset recommendation; if
someone asks about something for a portable thing, say "hd
25!"

hd21 has a low ohm and really good sound even on "small"
sources like an ipod or something...

if they don't want that, grado sr 60/80 are the secondary
recommendation, as they have a lower ohm and are generally
more comfortable... they're about equal in sound quality,
though, I think...

If they're going to be plugged into a proper Amp or mixer,
rather than just a soundcard port on, say, a laptop, the
Sennheiser HD-25s are great. Closed back and probably a bit
overkill unless you're really into production and DJing.
They sound bloody awful with MP3 players/psp/gameboy/etc.
though, due to the resistance of them.
