12 years, 9 albums (counting ep 7), 11 ep's, shitloads of
remixes and livesets behind us now. what can i say?

i can say thta i'm heavily impressed. i always liked
autechre and their music but i couldn't really understand
what it is all about.

until now - i listened to all their music again and
everything started to fit. - even chiastic slide and ep7
(which i have heard the first time this week) fitted into
the puzzle.

autechre created something that i would call "micro-music"
what's that all about?

lets say that autechre music is a picture, or lets say
better - a monument, something physical.

incunabula remind me of looking at this monument through a
camera from quite a distance.

every next album is like using the zoom in your camera. i'm
talking about amber and tri repetae.

then, you start to get very close - that's when envane pops
in. you are standing near the monument, you can clearly see
what it's all about and you see the whole structure.

then chiastic slide pops in with a big "bang". you start to
look very closely with your eyes on the monument. you can
see the material, the facture.

lp5 is a bit scarred - like autechre - the observers
(autechre) made a step back to once more look at the
monument from a wider distance to be sure they now what it's
all about.

ep7 is your magnifying glass. you look through it and you
see more and more details. you can see the complex structure
of the surface. it's a bit old and it has scratches on it.

but ae cannot get enough. they have to now the deeper part
of it.

confield is your microscope. we are getting into microscale
now. you start to see the material of the monument, what it
consists of.

gantz graf is just a perfect continuation of this proces.
the are astonished. so many things to see. they get addicted
to it.

draft is the microscope again, but ae change the
magnification rate to a higher one. and more and more
elements are visible. something nobody could expect looking
from the outside at this monu

but you can still see elements of the things you saw through
your magnifying glass,
the less deep parts.

untilted is nanotechnology. it's your electron-microscope.
you see atoms.
you see millions of small elements that together create the
whole monument.
you can hear the physical bonds between them. even more. you
see chemical
and physical reactions that hold the whole monument in one
piece.

so there is still plenty of room. there is still piko,
femto... there is so
much room to discover.

their music is so much more than i expected. i always
thought about the
"more inteligent" releases: yeah cool, random arepgiated
synths and beats
with a shitloads of vst's and dsp stuff - nothing more. and
i really didn't understand
confield. but the whole thing with this "micro-music" makes
so much sense!

richard devine is "micro-music" too. but devine is asking
"how?". autechre is asking "why?"

yes, thank you sadist, for making this world again safe for
us autechre fans.

unfortunately, imo your essay is complete bs. they make
music, sometimes its good, others is smacks of laziness. you
decide which is which.

that they make music? or that you decide wether its good or
not? or that you dont think my opinion is that ur essay is
bullshit?

their only release i really consider to be lazy is untilted
really.

ive listened to it on headphones, on a big ass 500 watt 4
speaker stereo, stoned, sober, drunk. just does seem like
they put any effort into it. each release up to draft feels
like they were really pushing themselves to make something
interesting that didnt conform to many preconcieved notions
of composition (which is the reason i think people think
theyre some kind of super group).

untilted just bored me. fuck, even the lame is lazy.

yeah autechre, it's not really like normal music and it's
not really the same as listening to normal music. like i
can't do shit with autechre just running in the backround,
you have to listen really hard. And you still might not get
it. Something like confield or draft may take 100 listens to
even get a close grasp on. Love untilted btw

IV VV IV VV VIII is amazing. Just wanted to say that in an
autechre thread. Always liked it, never knew why, it just
fit into its own style. It had its own rhythem and melody
and beats. Today it all came together when I was listening
to it. Forming and reformed fragmented sounds that whoosh in
and out of aural existence. The two explosions at the end
are fantastic. Best ae song (atm) (imo) (lol)

blah! this is what im annoyed with!

autechre is "normal" music. theres nothing transcendant
about sean and rob, theyre just two guys with an interesting
take on hip hop.

read some interviews, they scoff at this bullshit about it
being something beyond what other music is.
