or rather,

concerts of the music of steve reich.

'performances' would be an even better werd.

music for 18 musicians was performed live (by bang on a can
with steve reich there as well) within a five minute walk of
my apartment a few years ago, i found out about it months
later. ><

i hope you get to hear all the performances!

Haha the worst fucking luck ever.

I am staying in Dubin for a few days, returning on the
afternoon of the 17th. Or in other words, about 4 hours
before the festival starts.

You have to laugh I suppose.

Fuck.

I'm actually looking into the poss of changing my flight
back. I'm calculating how much it would all cost.

Have you got your tickets?

oh man they're doing "Three movements". that's one of my
favourite pieces! very dramatic, on the edge of melodramatic
even.

"City life" and "Different trains" are also very, very
great.

I've never been a big fan of "Music for 18 musicians",
myself.

Okay I think I'm changing my flight back - excellent :)

I love music for 18 musicians, will be the highlight for me
I imagine. Though there's loads of stuff I've never heard
before so that will be amazing.

ah didn't see your post earlier!

and no i'm not a dubliner originally :P

erm, pubs i usually frequent (apart from the student ones in
trinity) are doyle's (across from trinity, near d'olier
street), the ice bar (parnell street, dodgy part of town),
ummmm, hogan's (wexford street - the continuation of
george's street) and sin-e (on the quays)... i try not to
drink in pubs or clubs though because it's too expensive.

Where do you drink then - you mean get your own stuff?

Stupid euros.

Which of the concerts are you going to btw? Can't wait...

yeah i usually try to get hammered at house parties
instead.

the pubs in trinity aren't bad though, 2.20 for a can of
bavaria, can't go wrong.

it was cool of reich that he didn't mind being the
stereotypical american however :) (it was a stylishly black
cap)

thats funny - i was at the dublin airport and read the
article on steve reich from the sunday times or whatever
it was that had the article on it, the same magazine had a
brief interview on william orbit.
but obviously i left last saturday, having flown in on
friday to play a gig at chq/ifsc.
(how terribly non-interesting.)
the interview seemed nice!

It would be great to see you if you're meeting up. If you
are just post here or drop me an email. Internet cafes are
the best invention ever, I think. I'd be wondering around
aimlessly with nowhere to stay without them...

I'm off to the first concert this evening. Haven't even
checked what's being performed. But it will be excellent no
doubt.

Also - went to Ulysses exhibition today- amazing stuff.
Totally inspiring. And Davy Byrne's pub last night. Rock on
Dublin.

I have it. I've only listened to it once, quickly, so I
can't say that much about it. it reminded me a bit of "the
desert music", but only a bit.

Met the man last night, in the early hours, briefly... what
a night, totally surreal but wont go into it. Still somewhat
dazed.

qrter - its being playing this evening, that and 18
Musicians. I think it will be the best one of hte weekend.

Hey all - just thought some people would like to see my
photo of me meeting Steve Reich. They're not great but could
be worse. Excuse my grinning in my nervous loser way

Please love me Steve

And here is me with John Kelly who some might know of - we
spoke for a good while, got some amazing stories.

The Two Johns

Pretty amazing couple of days!

Its something to do with his faith, apparently - kinda the
equivalent of a skull cap, or something.
