"You are speaking the truth, which is very dangerous to do.
I think you are wrong, though, when you say most of the people in the world believe in these religions. Millions of us don't -- in places like Japan and China, for example, which account for a pretty big chunk of the world's population. "

the first paragraph is enough to make me stop reading. this is written by a silly man who should learn how to respect other people.
until then I say, as he probably would, "fuck you and your mama too."

sounds so obvious and so true... (i have doubts about "believing in science" though, since science in some early centuries also "preached" some things that are known (?) to be totally wrong now)
now...
if so much people believe in religion, there are probably reasons for it. i don't think a reason would be that religions are "true" or even approaching truth at all (i don't believe this)... but i think it could be interesting to think about what these reasons are.
i can think of: • influence of family and people around • the fact that it can't be proven wrong • the need of feeling "protected", feeling that there is a justice somewhere (even though i personally think it would be horribly unfair if it was true...) when everything is going wrong... i'm not sure about this but i think people are more likely to be/become religious when in a bad situation than in a good. if you consider this, religion = hope. hope that may not lead to desillusion (if you're not expecting too much of it) since the big thing about it would be after death.

I disagree that "the world's leaders" believe in religion. The truth is they use religion as a hook to control people.
man: "he fucking nuked iraq" other man: "it's ok though because he's a christian"

religion would be fine if people actually tolerated other religions and didnt take their own religion so literally, but that seems the norm these days
some mormon guy at work - "we shouldnt have invaded iraq, we should have nuked them years ago"
me - "why?"
some mormon guy at work - "becausae they arent christians"

Just read john chapter 3 verse 16 in the bible!FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY SON, SO THAT WHOEVER BELIVES IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE! This will answer a lot of your questions, if still in doubt, try asking god to reveal himself to you, I will be praying that god will reveal himself to you! god is a loving god, wether you like it or not! my relationship with god i dont see it has a religion, AS UNFORTUNATLY your right everyone gets caught up as "which religion do i follow"? I have a personal relationship with jesus and without him, i dont know how i would cope in this world which is so corrupt and evil !
I was once there, very anti christians...as every christian I met wasnt exampling the way god wants us to be! However i got to place in my life, where i had no person, no strategy, no concept , no other religion other than god, I chose to make him the first prority in my life! AND not a day goes by that i regret my descision.
You need to experience him, his love, his power, no being in this world can resemble him!
I pray you would have a greater experience with christians, and ultimatly God him self. AS HE IS the only way!
Bless you man!"
using the bible to back up arguments etc is just ridiculous as it is the validity of the bible that's in question. It's like the bible being found to be completely wrong and then a Christian saying "ermm, it actually says here that it's the word of God so ha!"

The tactic he uses on O'Reilly, and Laura Ingraham in the other clip, is to sit patiently as they rant ignorantly, then make the points he wanted to make anyways. It works well I think. In his book he talks a lot about Buddhist meditation and I'd guess he practices it, judging by his calm demeanor.

in this world, pain and suffering is just natural.
to be honest, everyones unique, but when it comes down to it, we arn't special in any-way... everyones decisions are based on everyone elses.
Human life reminds me of 'mandlebrot', it forms countless patterns from a single intregar (a certain type of number).. and from that everything else forms through it.
To a certain degree, people have decisions on what they do, but not much.. if i killed a person tommrow, i could say "but my dad was a psycho, and tortured me when i was young, it is my fault"; but i sitll have to take responcibility.
What i'm getting at is that nothing we can do right now is going to change the end outcome... because the intrgar has been set, and we are the outcome... hold on tight, it's going to be a harsh ride...
enjoy your life, help others if it makes you feel happy, my words won't change the way you behave, but i can still try...
