This song is absoulutely stunning. A 6 minute version is on
the gummo soundtrack, but the full version is 20 minutes
long. I don't know what to say. I am just listening to it
right now, and can't really explain it. Its a very beautiful
song. Kind of fits along side SAW II only with cheesier
sounds.

Its odd to think its been made by a satanist/nazi murderer
in prison.

I gave this album ("Filosofem") a proper listen about a year
ago, but the high pitched guitars were very repulsive for me
at that time. (I like more the "fleshy" classic black metal
guitars, like on Samael, or Opeth recordings) I remember
"Dunkelheit" was quit ok, and I remember also some
instrumental pieces. Was "Rungang um die..." one of them...?

Actually, it was the last album made before he went to
prison.

Ok. I didnt know that. I bought "Daudi Balders" (The death
of balder) and "Hlidskjälf" and i was mildly dissapointed
and put off from Burzum in general. I think the sounds are
really cheesy, but some of the tracks have some kind of
magic, occult feel to them, i can see that. Can you
reccomend me some better albums?

It's not that I like this guy's music. I've been into
metal for some time now, and I just got to know him "by the
way". As I said his guitars piss me off, they sound rather
like very distorted synths, they lack power. Morover Varg's
attitude is mega-pretentious, all this "dark", and "evil"
shit, it's just gets boring, although it may have its
justification in the fact that he is a criminal, and
thus fulfilling the will of Satan through his actions. Lol.
As "true" as you can get he is.

Hehe. Yeah. I also got to know him trough dabling a little
with the metal scene. As far as that goes, i still think
ulver is fucking excellent.

Well, I concur that his metal stuff is tripe. Very ameture.
The fact that he murdered his friend and bandmate was
awfull, and what not. And the whole "evil nazi satanist
whatever" bullshit is bullshit.

But this song is special.

I love Burzum and Vargs black metal tracks are way better
than most of the pure ambient compositions. His stuff
remains timeless.

He has made some of the best black metal albums ever;
Aske
Det som en gang var
Filosofem
Hvis lyset tar oss

I think that most of you would really see the brilliance in
his black metal tracks if you gave it a real chance.

It really reminds me of how I felt when I was about to hit
bottom, and all I wanted to do was live in a small dying
town and be as far away from people as possible. It sounds
kind of dramatic and silly now, but that was the point just
before things went really bad, and I hit probly the darkest
point in my life. Things are better now, but I haven't heard
anything else yet that describes that feeling better than
this song.

Heh... If that included being homeless, staying in a shelter
with a bunch of crackheads and other fucked up people (when
you are perfectly normal and just want to get a place to
stay) and nearly killing yourself every night, then maybe.

sound pretty good.

I thought this was pretty funny.

Varg talking about why he hasn't made any new stuff

...I was allowed to have a synthesizer for a few months
in 1994 or 1995 and in 1998. After a few months with a
synthesizer in the cell in 1998, I had to choose between my
synthesizer and my laptop computer, because the prison
authorities didn't let me have both at the same time (for
"security reasons"), and I chose to have the computer in the
cell, believing I could make music anyhow, by using some
music program. But the prison authority had other ideas,
claiming I didn't have an "extraordinary need" to have a
music program enabling me to make music on the computer. So
without a music program I couldn't make any more music from
then on. That is actually the main reason I haven't released
any records since 1999; to install a music program I need a
CD-ROM, and all CDs are banned in this prison (for "security
reasons").

some tracks on Hliðskjálf are great too.. especially Der
Tod Wuotans (Wotans Death, right?), when it goes into the
arpeggio melodies a minute or so into the track..
goosebumps!
