Yeah I have a Micron and I love it. Terrific thick rich tones. The vocoder is for shit on it but everything else more than makes up for it - drum sequencer, arpeggiator, phrase sampler, splitting and layering patches and phrase patterns... fuck yeah.
swift_jams should cancel his order and get a Micron instead.

Yeah, I ended up selling mine and wishing I had bought a micron. The microkorg is fun as hell to play with, but it takes nearly forever to get used to the matrix and it sounds kind of... rubbery?

It's not that I intended to trash it just to take the piss out, but I for one wasn't that impressed with the tones it cranks out, and the minikeys (and the small number of them) are a joke for actually trying to play most pieces. thats just how I see it and I hope swifty has some sweet_jams with it. :)

Understood :). I just feel kind of sorry for him. I wish people would be more at to ask questions about purchases from people who might be able to guide them in a better direction first before buying one. But then again, I am ready to spend money on a sh201 as soon as it is released, because the gearlust has kicked in.

Yeah the sh201 looks nice. How well it works (and the latency) as a USB soundcard/midi interface will be the deciding factor on whether or not I get one. If it's useable as midi keyboard and I can put my phat boy into it and the output of a mixer to the sound in and get all that going down the usb cable fast enough, as well as obviously its own sounds, it'll be v. tempting.
Still, as someone mentioned here the other day, NI just need to make a hardware unit for absynth that you can import softsynth absynth patches into and it'll murder most other synths.

the micron has fewer knobs, and that makes it inferior in my book! however, for what I need, I'd probably get the microkontrol, as I've got most of the synthesis I need already.. I just want more knobs and sliders for tweaking.
anyway, congratulations swift!

Heh... that was me! Absynth is my favorite software synthesizer, and I couldn't see any drawbacks to making it hardware (aside from the pricetag).
As far as the SH201 is concerned, I don't really want an addition to my DAW, since my DAW is not really used for audio anymore. But the interface looks really simple. No bells or whistles (aside from the LEDs around the knobs but that should be manditory on everything), no menus. That is all I really want in a synthesizer right now.

But, we have the ION version of the Alesis already. It's like the Micron + better. The MICROKORG is going to be for the analog-ish sounds and vocoding.

Yeah. Its light, and the modulation routings are extremely fun (very open, you can do that whole, Modulate LFO1 with LFO2, then Modulate LFO2 with the mod wheel, then Modulate the filter cutoff with LFO1 for really random sounding lfo action). But seriously. If you want good analogue modelling get a used nord lead rack or micromodular. They go for about the same as a microkorg, and sound much better. Or try your hand at getting a used access virus.

i have a micokorg and it's been great so far. i've gotten some great sounds out of it, it's pretty easy to manipulate, and it's great for portability! i could play it in the bathroom if i wanted, cuz it can run on batteries! the only problem i have with it (sorta, not a huge issue) is the size of the keys. a bit small, but you'll get used to it. good deal i say, enjoy it swift_jams!

i have had a microkorg for over two years. i like it a lot - it's fun to play with and to jam out with, but the keys are too just damned small to play anything too complicated.
however, the thing sounds amazing and the control you have over the sounds is incomparable to say, a VST. unless of course you have some sort of midi device to control the oscilators/etc.
for the $400 i spent on it (over two years ago) i could have bought a regular, full size midi keyboard and a few VST programs, or just use the free ones that seem to work just as well.
