Prejudice against music made on the computer

So people say to me "nothing beats playing an instrument"
and "PC is not as personal."
And it just makes me think..

For instance I can sit on the computer, recording a melody
up to 40 times before I feel I got it right.
I can sit and meticulously program a melody or a beat, and
then spending hours before I feel confident about it.

How is this not personal? How does that not beat playing an
instrument?

Also, the result you get is often more rewarding thaen what
a guitar and an amp could ever put out by itself.

i don't know but I hate this kind of ignorance.

uh there is no 'better' way to make music. sure, you may not
be able to play an instrument perfectly quantized ad naseum,
but since when are humans perfect?

i don't know, but i hate your kind of ignorance.

I know of some respectable artists who primarily produce
their stuff using a computer. In particular, there's Ochre,
Machine Drum, and Venetian Snares (who used a program called
Octamed I think).

Who cares what other people think. Use what works best for
you. As Sean Booth pointed out in the April 2003 issue of
Wire, "I wouldn't mind it if everyone had to use the same
three tools to make music because ultimately it's down to
your imagination."

He's not being ignorant, just sharing his experience.

This probably is a 'better' way for him to make music.

im just amazed that he can bother to be complaining about
prejudice against comp music, and then say electronic
"beats" acoustic music.

thats like a black/islamic/whateverraceyouwant person saying
"you cant be racist against me cuz im better than you!"

oh, and this is an totally subjective matter... most people
are totally unfamiliar with how you compose and create music
on a computer, the common conception seems to be that you
just "press a few buttons" and a masterpiece comes out in a
snap, discounting the fact that you actually have to
consciously create something that's worthwhile, even on
the pc!
. it's far from magic!

anyway, it's just as easy to dick around on a guitar for a
few minutes and create a mediocre rock tune as it is to
churn out some lukewarm techo in 15 minutes... although some
can actually capure some brilliance within that space of
time, be it electronic or otherwise...

I think he is just saying electronic music beats acoustic
music for him.

But, I don't know, he hasn't replied. That is my view on
the matter, however.

haha i said no such thing.
i said that electronic music is capable of much more than
what a guitar and an amp can accomplish.

guitar and an amp != acoustic music.

topic

what's "a fucking lemonade"? what is that?

"How is this not personal?"

it is personal. nobody is disputing your satisfaction.
congratulations on using your computer.

"How does that not beat playing an instrument?"

you like playing your computer more, but one instrument is
not better than another. if someone said, "which is better,
the cello or the snare drum," i would have to assume that
they are an idiot.

"Also, the result you get is often more rewarding thaen
what a guitar and an amp could ever put out by itself."

i guess if you don't play a guitar and are ignorant about
music, i could see why you would think that.

IT'S LESS PERSONAL BECAUSE IT INVOLVES LESS OF YOUR PERSON;
THAT IS, ELECTRONIC MUSIC GENERALLY INVOLVES THE TIP OF YOUR
INDEX FINGER WHEREAS DRUMS, FOR EXAMPLE, MAKES USE OF MUCH
MORE THAN THAT.

YES, I TAKE "ALL CAPS WEEK" DEAD SERIOUSLY

im extremely tired at this hour, but lets cut to the chase.
"i guess if you don't play a guitar and are ignorant about
music, i could see why you would think that. "

i said the RESULT is often more rewarding.
meaning AFTER you're done composing, and you put the track
on in the living room to relax to or whatever.

the rest i agree with.

also what do you mean "real account"?
im not someone else.

i said the RESULT is often more rewarding.

on in the living room to relax to or whatever.

and you're wrong because you're describing your musical
preference as the "correct" music. there's plenty of guitar
music that's just one guitar and it is definitely as good or
better than anything you can do on a computer. just because
YOU don't like something, doesn't mean it is universally
inferior.

its because most people just think of music as two guitars,
a drum kit and a singer, and wont accept anything that
doesnt fit that. we must prove them wrong!!!!!!!!!
