[usb] bus-powered devices and hubs

I know you're not supposed to plug loads of bus powered usb
devices into a hub, but is something bad going to happen if
I do? I want to have a Bluetooth dongle and a midi
controller and a mouse at once, will it break anything? Does
a midi controller use a lot of power?

As far as I know, the worst that can happen is that some
device may stop. Not dangerous IMO.

You're mean to be able to daisy chain 127 devices.

It's just power that stops that.

get a powered hub, it will eliminate the problems of devices
getting too little juice from your computer

Yeah I know, but I have a bedroom about 2m square with 14
power plugs already in use so there is little space for my
legs under this desk as it is. I've never suffered a juice
shortage but I was lead to believe I could short something
in my laptop if I hammered it with peripherals

nah, the only thing likely to happen is that your mac will
say that it hasn't got enough juice to support the connected
devices

So I pour juice on it?

Windows will just send you a message saying there is not
enough power to run the advice.
