does anyone know where i can buy the components for it?

basically i got in touch with Synth Repair Services in
stoke-on-trent and the guy there said he doesn't have the
switch in stock, but if i could supply the part he could fit
it for me.

i've googled and eBayed and can't find anything :(

does anyone here know where i might find the right
components?

please people - i'm desperate, i'm supposed to be working
with a band this year and i need my 909, it's the most
important part!

i thought the mode-selector switch on my 606 was fucked, so
I called the Roland office in Norway and they sent me a new
one. it turned out that it wasn't fucked after all, but the
moral of this story is: get in touch with Roland, they might
be able to help you out

i once accidentally broke one of the keys on my keyboard,
but i just found all the pieces and glued it back together.
so, i recommend glue, i guess.

I love glue. In a bag.

Can't you just take one of the lesser used keys and put it
in it's place?

Failing that, matchsticks.

i use all of the keys, you know it's the step keys

1-16

i need them all to be working :(

it might not need any parts...the LED on the button still
works, because it's showing the light....

the led works, it's just not doing anything when you press
it?

remove cover, clean surfaces.

yes, the LED works it just doesn't trigger any sounds or
register that i've pressed it at all

i just took the bottom off of it and it was scary

i'm too afraid i'm gonna fuck something up in there.

i need to get it looked at anyways by this guy at Synth
Repair Services, because the snare channel gives some hiss
when the tone and snappy are turned up, so i'll ask him to
basically give it a good cleaning and once over...hopefully
that will fix the problem

ahh someone from vintagesynth forums suggested this place

VintagePlanet

for my needs....they do seem to have sold the item i need in
the past but they are currently out of stock :(

i shall try a google search of the model number it shows

no luck :(

i've emailed the person who runs VintagePlanet to ask if
they can update me when they receive new stock

i'd much rather buy the replacement part just in case it
does have to be replaced

I wasn't being silly. Salt is a big factor on messing up
hardware. The first page on the System 100 is 'don't eat
peanuts' it's a great conductor and spoils things.

I know everyone dies but it is sad when a well loved popster
pops his disco boots ... Luther Vandross, the bloke out of
Chic, Falco... who will be the first IDM martyr?
Squarepusher looks a bit portly, combined with his high
stress levels he should choose the salad if he's to avoid a
premature heartattack and an ignoble "Best of.."

just got a reply from the VintagePlanet guy and thing's
aren't looking too good - he sold his last one about half a
year ago and is very unlikely to get any more stock

looks like i'll be calling Roland tomorrow...i hope i don't
get someone who has no clue what i'm talking about :(

offline oscillik from the fires of orc on 2006-01-22 14:54 [#01824684]

ok, i ended up calling Roland in the UK and the US and still
no luck...according to Roland the part has actually been
discontinued in Japan, the UK and US.

but....i managed to find someone on eBay who is selling a
Blue LED replacement kit for a 909 which includes
replacement micro-switches for the step-writing buttons. the
guy at Synth Repair Services said he can change out the blue
LED back to the original red one, so my 909 shall work
properly again :D

i think it's very foolish that Roland have discontinued
production of the part of the drum machine that is most
likely to fail...but then again, someone else should be able
to step up to the ladder to produce replacement parts :)

You should get your 909 overhauled. I have been hearing
about a lot of them stopping working lately.

Thats the problem with having vintage gear. It breaks and is
hard to repair.

i should get all my stuff overhauled....i'm sure the
switchboard on my 303 is a bit dodgy, so when i can afford
to get it done i'll try and get all my gear sorted out

am gonna be mainly restricted to 16 steps per bar (at
least for drums, unless you count the 32 steps that the
MachineDrum has but then that will only be used for quick
hits).
which means there will be only a few genres of music that i
can stick to while using this equipment. or until i can
figure another way to do stuff.

techno
rave
trance
braindance
electro

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

old school electro. You have the perfect setup for it.

If, by this time next week, you have not made a song that
has every hot girl in miami shaking their asses, I am going
to send people!

(You should also look at getting your 303 modded for full
midi implementation)

my 303 has the 5 port Kenton kit, so all i need to buy is
either the Kenton Pro-Solo or the Kenton Pro2000 and i can
trigger by MIDI.

i've got my eyes set on the Pro2000 though so then i can do
more with it, and trigger my 202 through it also :)

thanks for the link mate, i'll check it out.

and i'll try to get something down onto tape

with the ultra-303 project. It's very good.

the idea is great....seems to have taken a leaf from the

taken a step further with this mod...

not to mention the MIDI implementation :D

If its any consolation, you could just try to avoid
sequencing a beat there... Its a pretty useless place to
have a beat (unless you plan on using it for a hihat, or a
fill).
