i recently thought about buying myself some decent studio
monitors... i just can't decide which one to buy.

i want to upgrade them to 5.1 surround in the future so it
would be nice if the wouldn't be that big.

i looked at the m-audio studiophile 2.1 option - you can
separately buy 3 monitors afterwards.

someone uses something like that ?

here's what i have.

i like them. they're active which means you don't need a
seperate amp. should be easy to go 5.1 with em, they have
toggles on the back for various crossover scenarios..

I'm trying to figure out what's so "gay" about it. Care to
elaborate?

the blue sky thingie is a bit too expensive...

i thought about some decent alesis mk2 speakers but you can
buy only pairs. - so if i would want to make some 5.1
speaker surround with an additional subwoofer i would have
to make 6.1

alesism mark II. unbeatable for their price, which went down
in last months btw, around 400-450$ (active) or 300$
(passive).

from the upper shelf- genelec /adam.gay names, but superior
quality.

I have a pair of edirol MA-20D's and they are pretty great.

I don't see the point of studio monitors with subwoofers.
The whole thing about studio monitors is they don't give you
too much bass, so you get an honest sound. You don't get
monitors that make your music sound anything but plain,
because they aren't supposed to make your music sound
different than what it is.

I use a pair of Genelecs 2029A, high quality.
