Sexism!

Do you think that since about 1997, everything has been
marketed towards men as if we're a bunch of monkeys who read
FHM, wear Lynx aftershave and think that Abi Titmuss is the
perfect girlfriend?

I think girls are way cooler than us now.

did your parents hide you from "naughty commercials" on the
television when you were young or something?

Mate, I'm no prude. I'm objecting to all this crap because
it's phoney and tacky and dumb, not because of any moral
objections.

sexist adverts make children have prejudice against ugly
people

I don't care much about, although I do find it slighty
insulting to my intelligence. More fool the girls if they
genuinely believe we're like that.

FHM: The jazz-mag for men who are too chicken to buy real
porn and too stupid to use the internet instead.

over cleveland.

Now playing- Yagya: "we reject the now"

I just feel like this whole country is a load of bollocks. I
want some fun, and some cool ideas. People should use
capitalism to do some more cool things, instead of just
sitting around watching celebrity big-brother. Hope lies
with the girls, they are the future of awesomes.

I'm not saying you're a prude -

i'm saying it's been going on an awful lot longer than 1997.
Some advertising person didn't wake up on a morning that
year and think, "I'VE GOT IT, SEX SELLS!"

I know, but it's not even cool sexy anymore, it's just dumb.
I'm not just talking about sex, it's the whole "Lad Culture"
thing. If you are a straight guy, you're assumed to be a
meathead, and if you're gay, it's assumed you like interior
design and are basically a girl.

It does piss me off the way you never see a picture of a
woman just natural, not all make upped and airbrushed... it
is true that people feel they have to look like that which
results in make up caked tarts

roles written out for them

Yes, it's like people just wake up in the morning and slip
on some cliche of an attitude. Even the indie kids are a
carbon copy of some cheesy, idealised rock and roll
stereotype. Look at British youth culture up until about
1995, loads of things were going on, then YAWN! it's like
having a stable economy has fucked us up culturally.

Teenagers have been a marketing concept since, I don't know,
after WWII. I think the Teenager concept goes onto until
about 34 nowadays so you get a bit more of the advertising
lifestyle guff for a broader market.

jeans and a trucker-cap and you think "Why not just wear a
giant nappy, fuckwit?!"

It always amuses me that if sexism is directed towards men
it is seen as funny. This is because it has already been
established that men are superior to women and thus being
ironic.

Why did the woman cross the road?
Who gives a crap what was she doing out of the house
anyway.

What do you say to a woman with a career?
Big Mac large fries

what's the first thing a battered house wife does as soon as
she returns from the hospital?

the dishes if she knows whats good for her

what do you tell a woman with two black eyes?

nothing...youve already told her twice

how do you turn your dishwasher into a snowblower?

get that bitch a fucking shovel

i know there are a few exceptions, hence the "(almost)"...
i've also heard of a tribe in which men do all the work,
raise the kids etc, and women govern. i don't remember where
this is though.

To be fair I really dont know their attitude towards men.
What I mean was just that in this case thier isnt sexism
towards women. Ive heard of that tribe, cant remember it
either though. I should have paid more attention in
sociology class.

marketing likely reflects reality. the ads must be
successful on the majority or they'd change them. Plus the
current advertising status quo is the result of a long
process of trial and error and arms races and "evolution",
so naturally the sucessful ones would exist now.

It's mostly qrter's fault I'd say. Post some picture of
Calvin Klein in underpants on a billboard and he goes out
and buys 10 pair. Is anything not qrter's fault?
