music.

Personally I don't have preferences for them. Like xf said,
both have released music that I like.

It's a tough choice. Rephlex had an awesome year with
Analord but Warp also released a couple of gems last year
that I'm really enjoying. Jackson and His Copmputer Band is
a standout release for me. It exudes quality. Rephlex
countered with DMX Krew CD which is sweet as.

That question is redundant and short-sighted. Neither can
be better or worser than the other as it's almost exclusivly
a subjective matter.

I suppose you could measure "betterness" on how much money
they made, how many new artist they signed up and they're
relative popularity in terms of fan numbers- ofcourse the
latter is highly inaccurate seeing as we're all likely to
have more than one preferred artist. (again going back to
subjectivity)

hmm, yeah its pretty much impossible to say which is better
outta the two.
even tho i personally would... maybe say warp cos they have
heaps of quality stuff, rephlex do to, and warp have also
been signing some less popular artists.
+ their last two aphex twin releases (hab and 26 mixes) both
have some screw ups.

Much prefer the releases from Warp overall over the years...

offline xceque on 2006-01-02 07:12 [#01810314]

I was assuming that the question wasn't literally asking
which is the best, just folk's opinions. Neither is
better. I just think Warp is better. Their roster is far
more varied in style and more consistent in quality (at
least they were for a long time - some questionable signings
in recent years). Rephlex, while putting out some corking
stuff, seems to have a narrower palette, and, to be honest,
a fair selection of releases are actually a bit boring.

Don't make me post those warp cover montages again.

that wasn't the point. there's a difference between being
concerned only with where music originates and recognising
that a lot of good music originates from a particular
source.

So with that logic, the question in the first post is just a
glorified math question with variables based on personal
views, not just a straight up opinion like my post.

When Warp started out, a lot of techno and house records
were experimental anyway. Then as the years go by, you can
see how they moved more towards the home listening stuff as
dance music became more commercialised.

No, no, the question in the first post was a slightly
awkwardly phrased attempt to get opinions as to which is the
preferred label. For whatever reasons. Your opinion, while
completely acceptable, reasonable, and one I also share,
doesn't really answer the question.
I'm not trying to be argumentative... I'm far too tired...
just sayin'

i think every release in rephlex is very interesting and
worth checking out (wether it's shit or not), warp releases
some great stuff, and some crap too. My concept of rephlex
is that the guys there are trying to make a point. and I get
that point and I share the view with them.

so to sum up, I like rephlex better

they've both been sliding down hill pretty steadily the last
few years...i would said plaid's double figure and
astrobotnia were the end of the magic (well soundmurderer
won them some points back but rephlex hasnt been anything
near what they used to be)

that depends which records were talking about... they are
only record labels .
surely the artists and music produced is of more importance.
?
so which do you prefer.....:

ARTISTS OR LABELS

(do you prefer them labels that release a series of similar
12" records of various artists, , , using the identity of
the "series" and label as the main point. . . i.e. early
warp, metroplex etc . . . . or a label that takes a back
seat and each artist represents their own individual styles,
,, as warp more recently has become IMHO)

?
