Simon Reynolds said 2005 was the worst ever year for music.

i also agree. pretty much all of our heroes released music
this year, and pretty much all of it sucked. it was enough
to make me completely lose the level of interest i once had
in new music.

No, there were some quite interesting things, but nothing
that made me go WOW! There's always something going on
underground, but the mainstream was just fucking terrible.
Kaiser Cheifs I think were the worst example.

offline QRDL from Poland on 2005-12-27 19:08 [#01807432]
Points: 2838 Status: Lurker

Ah, maybe. I can't really say anything about the mainstream,
but the two new SOAD albums confirmed that they really had
nothing more to show after the debut. QOTSA also
disappointed considerably.

offline swears from junk sleep on 2005-12-27 19:09 [#01807433]

Those bands are pretty mainstream.
I just feel like there's nothing new, it's all revivals and
mediocrity.

offline QRDL from Poland on 2005-12-27 19:13 [#01807434]
Points: 2838 Status: Lurker

Yeah, I just noticed that the way I wrote that suggests I
don't think SOAD and QOTSA are mainstream. Well, they once
weren't and both used to write good stuff, especially the
latter.

qotsa = queens of the stone age?

(rough try - i don't know how this came out of my mind)

QOTSA: like their new, some great pieces on it. It had
become one of my most frequent 7 a.m listenings. (Home - bus
stop - uni).

I'll just pretend that the above posts don't exist.

I just don't like the hard rock feeling you get while
listening to Lullabies and I don't really like songs that
sound like songs. The signs of decay were already present on
Songs for the Deaf in tracks like Do It Again or Just
Another Love Song, but this time there were no giant hits to
make up for them. That said, I don't hink it's a bad album.
It's just not so good, just like TCH was for many of you.

My fave album was their first. The second was okay, then I
lost interest after that. I got into them 'cause I got into
Kyuss just after they split up, then found out Josh Homme
had a new band.

well if your concerned with qotsa and autechre then we're
not speaking the same language...

this year sucked for established artists...the
aforementioned...but had its moments else
where...overall...pretty damn lame
