so it's come to light that a voting error handed London the 2012 Olympics and that it should have gone to Madrid instead..
From BBC Sport.com: A senior Olympic figure has told the BBC that London only won the 2012 Olympics because of a misplaced vote.
Alex Gilady claims the mistake happened when a vote was cast for Paris instead of the intended recipient, Madrid.
Had the vote gone to Madrid, claims Gilady, they would have finished level with Paris on 32 votes apiece in the penultimate round, behind London.
Gilady suggests Madrid would have won a head-to-head vote with Paris and gone on to beat London in the final round.
does anyone care? I personally wish London hadn't won it, too much of a waste of taxpayers money. Discuss.

Sounds like sour grapes on the part of Madrid. If you're too much of a retard to use a ballot form correctly, you don't deserve a vote. Same goes for the American elections.
Regarding the olympics: I'd rather we didn't have them either. London is overcrowded, overpriced and overcongested as it is, we don't need an influx of half a million more people. It's no national pride status symbol for me. It'll be interesting to see what happens with congestion charging during the olympics...

I know, what possible good can releasing this news possibly do? It's not going to make Madrid get it after all, it's not even going to really significantly detract from London getting it. It just slightly cheapens the whole experience.
E-man: Yep, the only time anyone I know was happy at us getting the olympics was when we were winding up a French colleague who really wanted Paris to get it. I'd be happy for Madrid to have it.
