if electromagnetism pulls the electron to the nucleus, wtf
keeps it away?

they aren't pulled to the nucleus, they just orbit the
nucleus in concentric shells.

Why do you need to know? Are you scared that your electrons
will be gone when you wake up in the morning?

But what would happen if your electrons all just left? It
would be pandemonium!

Now I'm scared.

Phew, as long as we've got a non-descript deity keeping an
eye on our sub-atomic particles, I'll sleep well tonight.

the electron loves, and wants so much to live with, the
nucleus... to live happily together, have children maybe
(whatever they might be like)... so the electron tries and
tries and tries, spins around the nucleus, trying to seduce
it, not wanting to accept that all its efforts are vain. the
nucleus lets the electron try to seduce it, but will never
let it close enough even for a kiss. it is a tragic romance
story which repeats in every atom of the universe.

not that anyone gives a fuck though.
