ooh... what a way to start out posting on this site...

well, albeit, some of the drum machines modern/typical
people can not afford, I'd still have to say the Roland
TR-808 for being the most influential on anything produced
thereafter & most influential on the certain steps music
took in direction after it's production. No other drum
machine made like that since.

The Roland TR-808, I'm addicted to the sound of it.

ok
maybe i should have said....
favourite drum machine ever.... ;)
with examples....... best drum machine workouts in what
track etc . . .

but yeah... tr808 is the killer queen!!!!

mpc60 and sp12 (sampling drum machines) are pretty important
too....

:)

I have the HR-16B......... great unit......... the
instructions are on a flip up piece of plastic on the top of
the machine!

the idea that the chip could be reprogrammed is
interesting... anyone know anything more about this........

well, I don't really do hardware... so my favorite drum
machine is Ultrabeat.

Its a plugin only for Logic Pro, and it is AWESOME. It has
sample playback, as well as straight up synthesis.

Its great for making electronic drums from scratch, or
processing samples.

It has subtractive, FM, and modeling synthesis.

ultrabeat

Not so sure that Ultravox used the Linn on Vienna....
Anyway, being a drummer, mine's probably the Simmons SDSV.

I would have to say the Tr-606 as well. Match that bad boy
up with a 101 or 303, even a 202, and you have yourself the
tools for a whole song.

Plus, its just so darn snappy! :)

i know that they're limited in sooo many ways but... i'm a
fan of the korg electribes.

the sampler is great
and the drum machine is great

both great.

yeah. . . i know putting your own sounds onto EPROM based
digital drum machines is possible. . . LINN, DMX, DX and
S.C.I . . .

you just need an EPROM burner and some idea of how the data
is organized on the chips. . .

not sure about other digital drum machines though.... but
its all data if you got any friends handy with the old
backward engineering ;)

but this is all only worh it if your into the old interfaces
i guess.

I like the kick drum on the 808, but all the other sounds
leave me going "wha??"

I want to get a Machine Drum. (Next on my list)

I also want to get a JoMoX airbase (or even an MBase. All I
really want is a kick drum to tweak)

Those both stike me as being great drum machines.

As well, if I can ever find one cheap, an sp12 or 1200. I
want a 12 bit sampler. Probly just end up getting a TX16w or
something.

I wouldn't say the electribes are that limited (look at the
modulation/knob movement recording possibilities, even
before you consider the 4 drum synths). I vote the ER-1 best
budget drum machine of all time.

Out of the classics, I like the TR-707, great display (I
always refer to floops' drum pattern editor as 707-like),
really good sounds and so much cheaper than a 909.

I'm not that fussed on the 808. I've not used one in the
flesh, but I don't really like the sounds, other than the
admittedly brilliant, booming kick drum.

The only "friend" I ever had who could possibly do anything
like that sold me out for a six-pack of beer and half a line
of speed........... so he's out of the question......

And to be honest, the interface of the HR-16B, while simple,
has a few really annoying idosyncracies.......... for
instance, in pattern mode you can't move backwards in a
pattern, only forward, so if you accidently go past the
point in the pattern you wish to edit, you have to move
through the whole pattern before you get to that point
again...... so frustrating, especially with quantize turned
off!

Anyway, welcome to xlt :)

the best are blatantly the roland x0x's. Or maybe the Yamaha
RX-15, which cost me a fiver in a car boot sale!

Is that a drum machine or an estimate of the bike's speed?

that bike can do 300 bpm....I wonder if it has Midi

Anything with TR on it is a winner in my book of classic
sounds. Modern day I would say the machinedrum or the er-1
which is kind of a cheeper version. It's a shame there
aren't many modelling drum synths on the market at the
moment

the reason i say the er-1 is limited is mainly because the
synth patch is just basic subtractive synthesis with only
one oscillator. it'd be nice if it contained two
oscillators and maybe a few effects, but i'm by no means
saying the ER-1 sucks... The ER-1 is the shit.
