You see them on the street.
You watch them on TV.
You might even vote for one this fall.
You think they're people just like you.
You're wrong......Dead wrong.

Just found this class site dedicated to my fave sci-fi film
of the eighties. (And it's very eighties.)

My favourite part is when Rowdy Roddy Piper calls the old
woman "Formaldahide face".

http://www.theylivenow.co.uk/
Includes a sample of Bill Hicks talking about the movie.

It's funny how David Icke based his religion on it. It's as
if he's not capable of understanding that humans can fuck
everything up by themselves perfectly well on their own.

Best fight scene ever!!! first half of the film is amazing,
the second half is a real cheesefest. Like some chuck norris
flick.

Got this on DVD with interesting special features - they
talk about how they really wanted to film the most realistic
fight scene that they could - ironic considering how fake
wrasslin' looks, but they did a commendable job. funny audio
commentary with piper and carpenter, also.

On a hardly related note I bought reservoir dogs and thought
it was pretty good. and I saw evil dead 2 for the first
time: a+
dawn of the dead was weird cheese + cool

The following movies were anything but good though:
lethal weapon 3
senseless
i still know what you did last summer

Great film. Evil Lynn is hot. Roddy laughs a lot. JC's last
great movie. Bill_Hicks fucked the dvd, he told me.

i agree with the billster... the fight scene is unreal..
goes on for ages "try on the friggin glasses... *smack"

Autechre played it as one of their chosen movies on autechre
-tv at ATP03 and it was perfectly timed with us lot being
off our chops on some quality grass.

There are the two sides of eighties American pop culture in
this movie: The blue collar, Bruce Springsteen/ John Cougar
Mellancamp, downtrodden "I still believe in America, man"
guys, and Huey Lewis/Reganite, rich fuck, corporate raider
yuppie aliens. Both stereotypes are hilariously played out
during the film like the way the aliens use Rolex watches to
transport themselves and the good guys all wear plaid shirts
and blue jeans.

that's bullshit. have you actually seen the film? The film
all goes pearshaped once the aliens start using those
teleportation watches. Up till then it seemed quite
plausible.

I couldn't give a shit whether it's plausible. It's a satire
(a pretty basic one at that) it doesn't have to be
realistic. It's funny and entertaining.

it just goes all a bit too "star trek" for my liking.

Haven't you seen the ending? Fucking hilarious!
I always imagine after all the humans wise up, the aliens
just flee the planet and nuke us.

the music in that picture is good - strange blend of some
semi-symphonic stuff with electronics.

I still have to get the soundtrack - Film Score Monthly
released it quite recently, together with the even weirder
soundtrack of "Demon Seed" on one cd.

reviving the thread to say that Soylent Green is awesome.
Heston is a complete ass throughout most of the movie and
it's brilliant. the furniture is quite snazzy as well.
