Come late February, the legendary Warp Records will unveil Security Screenings, Herren's latest opus under the Prefuse moniker
Described in his press release as "a masterclass in sliced-up breakdance noise rock," Security will feature collaborations with kindred souls Four Tet and TV on the Radio's Babatunde Adebimpe. While the collabo-heavy Surrounded By Silence employed extensive vocal work from guest stars, Security sees Herren returning primarily to "the type of intricate instrumental material that slayed fans in the first place." So prepare to be slain by the following cuts, glitch-hoppers:
01 The Letter: "P" 02 With Dirt and Two Texts-- Afternoon Version 03 Illiterate Interlude 04 Keeping Up With Your Quota 05 No Special Bed 06 Weight Watching 07 When the Grip Lets You Go 08 Always It's Gonna Be Like That 09 Creating Cyclical Headaches [ft. Four Tet] 10 Awakening to a... 11 With Dirt and Two Texts-- Later Version With Love 12 No Origin 13 One Star and Three Stripes 14 Mud in Your Breath 15 Breathe 16 Matrimonioids... (for: Elivin + Susana Estela) 17 We Leave You in a Cloud of Thick Smoke and Sleep Outro [ft. Babatunde Adebimpe]

I enjoyed a lot of Surrounded By Silence, some of the vocals worked for me...Pastel assasins, now youre leaving and hideyaface (although i prefer the orchestral reprise version of that one)
One Word Extinguisher/Extinguished still remains my favourite release, but im excited about this new one.

i love one word/outtakes and vocal studies. surrounded by silence was a bit too uneven for me, but some of the tracks are absolute KILLER. just the though with masta killa and gza is some of the best stuff i've heard from him AND mk/gza. i really REALLY wish that herren would do an entire fucking album along with gza, although that will never happen.

"what artists are similar?" - well, that's a tough one, since there are not too many IDM/hip-hop ensembles out there... But a connection could me made to more "classic" warp artists such as Nightmares on Wax or Anti-Pop Consortium - although, to be frank, Prefuse73 is much better in my mind.
Actually some of the instrumental tracks remind me of Two Lone Swordsmen, Autechre and Björk all at the same time.
As for this release-- it's great how prolific they've been! New albums or EPs released all the time!

"sliced-up breakdance noise rock"
..is that what they've meant he's doing all along?
If so, I may want this, if not.. I don't know.

I've only ever heard One Word Extinguisher and it's excellent. Comparitively, the last album is bland and boring, like the front cover. It was very different to OWE though. It's nice that there are still prolific releases coming out, unlike the Autechre boys, who are content with 8 new tracks every two years at the moment.

There is some real gold on the new one, I'm not a huge fan of the rap tracks but there is lots more to enjoy. The Broadcast collab, Blonde Redhead collab (one of my fave tracks this year prob), Bad Memory Interlude One, Minutes Away Without You, LA Correction Exchange... some of his best stuff is on here. I listen to it more than the previous ones although I really like them too.
REALLY looking forward to this one, possibly could top SBS. Prefuse is kind of unique really... ultra-modern, progressive, innovative, orignal, rythmic, emotive... I think he embodies the WARP aesthetic more than anyone else on the roster since the late nineties, really, dispite not sounding like the stereotypical warp IDMer.
