my dad got some new stuff and gave me his old;

how to get it all hooked up is where i need help.

here is the power unit

here is the rear of the power unit

here is one of the speakers, rear of speaker/hookups, heavy stuff out of the way

and just 2 cords of this type

no idea what to do. the power unit has copper wires coming
out the back, and theres no way to connect those to the
speakers, so can i just remove them?

did you fucking steal those or something? hah. just
wondering... because you should have an owner manual with
them mackies there... and they are self powered, so i HIGHLY
suggest not hooking them up to an amp... the speakers are so
heavy because they have a built-in amplifier!

correct me if i'm wrong other peeps, but if you hook up a
powered monitor to an amplifier, you could blow both of your
amplifiers... right?

If you hook up anything to an amp it could explode. But more
than likely it will sound horrible even if he doesnt crank
up the volume.

Does he need just a preamp or a source with xlr outs?

you definately could have a blowout if you hook up speakers
(with built in amps) to an external amplifier. Tread
Lightly.

just connect the speakers straight to your
computer/mixer/etc.

you'll be fine. we've got those monitors in our studios in
college, but they do sound a bit "too nice" (to quote my
lecturer).

so, amp is not needed?

quoth; i wish i were crafty enough to steal monitors like
these i'd do it all the time. but, no. i did not.
