how can he put some audio trough fx, record it at the same
time, put it again tru fx, add some other audio, put it
again tru fx and record it...

how the fuck is that possible?

i watched everything:

1. movie 1
2. movie 2
3. picture

and i still cannot imagine how he does it.

mastah: i think i can make it in a few days

the most impressive thing is that he can choose which
channels go trough the fx channel

its pretty easy to make a matrix like that in reaktor. Well,
not easy, it takes some time, but no more time than anything
else he has in that video.

i know i know !! come on i'm not stupid but i mean isn't it
impossible to play some loop in a sampler and record audio
in that sampler at the same time ?

complicated.

From the native instruments interview:

" I think Squarepusher is the only composer doing electronic
beat-based stuff who has done something truly virtuoso."

You got that right, sir!

i actually a m trying to get into... but i'm getting kinda
overwhelmed by that all.

knowing what this effect is all about would kinda excite me.

besides - i actually wanted to make something similar in
ableton live if it is actually possible.

What he has is an audio channel that is being routed through
both an output channel and a sampler at the same time. when
he presses stop on the recording, the stop button is
connected to a switch which then changes the audio in that
channel from the sampler instead of the incomming channel
that the sampler was recording from. Its not really that
complex. You could also make it so that there are a number
of these, and every time a certain button is pressed, it
switches the on off from one sampler to the next. Thats how
I would do it at least. I am not that efficient with
reaktor, as any instrument I make usually maxes out the
processor, but if you get to know it well enough, the sky is
the limit.

Brilliant video, thanks for the link. I found that really
inspiring. I should try out reaktor.

Sorry if I made it sound like I actually knew what he was
doing there. Thats just me guessing, but I know stuff like
that can be done pretty easily in reaktor.

that's so impressive for me - and everything sounds so
crispy clear...

no no thank you really - just another thing i can try out.

i even thought that this may be even through midi, you know
with just recording the effect on/off buttons. but i don't
think that would work like that.

besides - i'm curious if he has every of the effects on each
channel, or just one global fx channel.

in that movie you can clearly see that he is recording the
change of two samples, and then he's kicking one out.

That would be done through switches. I don't think he is
using one sterio channel for all that, because it would be a
nightmare for mixing live (he wouldn't be free to tweak one
without lowering or raising others, would sound too loud or
quiet at times).

Two things I got from that video:

1-he knows what he is doing, and is good at tailoring his
setup for what he is comfortable with. A mark of any good
musician.
2-thats a wastfull use of a good kaos pad. (sorry, but there
are better things for them then just a controller).

*wastefull

not for someone that can make himself instantly better
effects than the kaoss pad will ever have

Ouch.

As much as I love the freedom of reaktor, I would never
trade the sound of my kaos pad for it :(

do you use it for live playing only or for studio too ?

I haven't done any live playing in front of an audience.
Never get my ass together enough to prepare a show, let
alone finish and album. Its great for inspired tweaking of
sorts. Not too many options there there, so you learn to
work with what you have. Makes things fast and intuitive :)
