my fav album is 'remission & bites' my fav track is 'warlockED'

yeah... though 'VIVIsectVI' is a considered a classic amongst skinny puppy fans (well, thats what i've found), i cant say i'm really into it. 'the singles' is a good place to start for a beginner imo :)

"12 Inch Anthology" is a good overall taster.
I really liked Greater Wrong of the Right but my favorite is the side project Doubting Thomas and I found out that the album The Infidel was almost used for the movie Army of Darkness.
Vivisect VI takes a few listens and although I am the offical Skinny Puppy Fan Boy, Ogre's voice spoils some of their tracks on this one.

I think there will be a chromeo type retro band who start making Front 242/Nitzer Ebb/DAF/skinny puppy 80's style industrial music.
They will be called Das Futur or something.

you have got to take a listen to MIND: The perpetual intercourse and Cleanse, fold and Manipulate. Those two are amazing, as all Skinny Puppy albums pre-The Process are! Samples, cool rhythms and really nice textures... Saw them live back in 88 and it was fantastic -most intense I´ve ever seen, maybe apart from NIN on the downward spiral tour!

I have'nt read everything in this thread, but, Skinny Puppy are my idols, or whatever :p
First time I heard them was in 1991, and then I got Too Dark Park... but, it's like they had a HUGE chance in style with TDP, so I "obiously" got disapointed with former releases........
But then came Last Rights and it's like OMG (haha or whatever) ..those 2 albums are amazing..
I don't understand what happened to them with the Process (if that were their next album after Last Rights?)
Last Rights is like "IDM industrial" :p

you gotta see a GWAR show. the music is questionable, but the blood... oh the blood. not to mention the brain matter, shit, piss, semen and menstruation.
and most of it gets sprayed quite a distance OFF the stage.

morphuze: what happened to them was that dwayne goettel died of an overdose - and that cevin key and nivek ogre weren´t exactly neither clean nor friends at the moment. an ok album for this circumstances - but the best skinny are earlier: bites, MIND: TPI, Cleanse Fold & Manipulate, Too Dark Park. viviSECTvi.

jumped into this thread too late
but its really hard to choose the best skinny puppy album,
here are just a few i like -
Bites, Remission, Last Rights, Too Dark Park. Thelast 2 are from imo the end of skinny puppy's career. They got back together to released 2 more albums that i think are frankly shit. The first two are synth pop gothic masterpieces.
Download is also amazing i recommend Furnace, Eyes of Stanley Pain, Effector, and Fixer

A track titled "Left Handshake" was excluded from Last Rights, leaving a blank track 10 on some copies of the album. Clearance for a lengthy vocal sample from Timothy Leary's Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out (1967) was approved by Leary, but denied by the copyright holder.[2] The song, in which a crazed Ogre responds to Leary's instructions for avoiding a "bad trip", was eventually released on the initial European edition of Brap (1996) and on a limited edition single called "Track 10" sold at the Skinny Puppy reunion concert in Dresden (2000).

also recommended:
cevin key - the ghost of each room this album is great. a lot of it sounds like a modern doubting thomas album, it has that classic feel. two songs feature ka-spel and are tear garden esque and one song features ogre, which isnt my favorite but is a better version of the oHgr/new sp material.
key+marshall - the dragon experience this one is a bunch of stuff key did in the mid 80s that marshall went back into and reworked. classic sounds modern production.

ghost of each room is better than effector imo. effector has a few good tracks but is probably the weakest one overall.
i dont own dragon, so you might be right. my buddy has it and ive liked it every time hes played it. goer i think is really really good when its good. bobs shadow, tatayama (sp), certain stuuckey (sp) all gold. as an album listen the tear garden and ogre tracks break it up a bit, but i still think its worth hearing if you are into his stuff.
now music for cats im not as into. maybe ill throw it in again since it came up, i dunno but i got it, tried listening a couple times and couldnt get into it.

I found recently that the entire Ain't it Dead Yet video is online. This was a live video/LP that came out in '87. I saw this first in my teens in the mid 90s, and it left a huge impression on me. Great mix of performance art and live music.
There was a raw, visceral inspiration these older performances have that the newer live shows don't as much.
