so i'm learning to speak and write/read japanese these
days. My teacher is this mega cute japanese girl who joined
our martial arts dojo a while ago. Of course i got the
major hots for her and she's super friendly but romantically
cagey at the same time.

Anyway, its great learnin a language with a native speaker
an d i'm getting a real kick out of trying to remember all
the characters... 3 writing systems with 1000's of
characters. Its the first time ive studied something
academically in years. anyone else ...wakarimasu ka?

romantically cagey = rapist speak for "she's not
interested"

I like learning japanese...however you shouldn't have had
the questionmark after the ka :)

I can read and write hiragana and katakana and I know a
couple of hundred kanji...I'm not an intensive learner
though, just as a hobby.

I am also trying to learn Spanish to a better standard.

If you are fluent, you can earn bundles working as a
translator or teacher.

ecnadniarb : yep.. i see it as a hobby too but do hope some
of it comes in handy in january when i arrive in tokyo for 2
weeks. I really like the caligraphy part of it and must get
a Shodo set. This teacher has a license in the art of
calligraphy too and i can defo see how its good for the
mind. (and her body)

haha. I hope to finally get to Japan next year some time.
The sooner the better. Apparently you have to learn 2000
individual Kanji in addition to hiragana and katakana before
you can just get by reading a newspaper. I can understand a
few phrases that crop up often but I am still far off from
being able to read and write fluently. My spoken Japanese
is a little better but not having a native speaker to
practice with is really a pain.

THE nerd obsession with japan, japanese culture, japanese
women, anime, manga, hentai, jap-pop, EVERYTHING.

it's everywhere, especially the net. i'm not calling alex a
nerd, i'm just expressing my dislike for .. what i said.
