I've been thinking about this for a while, and I think it
could be done and maybe even as interesting as I initally
imagined if done correctly.. it's basically setting up a
webradio thingie of someone making a track.. it'd be cool to
listen in on the process and stuff like that, but it'd take
someone who actually think they can finish a large portion,
if not all, of a track in one go, more or less... I'm not
really sure I would be any good for this personally even
though I mostly finish tracks in one go; listening to me
creating could get boring as it's long hours of plinking and
plonking on the synth and I also spend a lot of time looping
small areas while doing percussion, so... would anyone be
interested in listening and/or broadcasting?

awesome! based on your music, there'll be a lot happening in
it too!

I got to go right now, but I hope there'll be
listeners as well when I return!

Are you saying I should start my own webradio and do it
right now?

Me and a mate did a laptop jam a few weeks back that
resulted in a 90% complete track and the final thing is very
recognisable. That sort of live composition works quite well
with minimal techno where patterns are evolving ever so
slightly over a long period time- there's no pressure to
just change something for the sake of it.

Yeah, live jamming is really cool when making simple
techno/acid stuff.

hehe.. no, not really.. it'd need some
organising/advertising so that people tune in. Of course,
I'd like to hear it anyway, but I imagine it'd be more fun
for you too if more people tune in...

hah.. so.. maybe I should do a thread with a better title
than "idea."?

I'll let this simmer for a while - if there are no more
people interested in tuning in, I'll blame the thread title
and make a new thread.

I'd definitely be interested in listening. Cygnus was more
or less doing that during his xlt radio show. I enjoyed it
quite a bit.

I'm interested in how others make tracks.

I'm not sure, but it might be better for the person to do it
live, record all the audio, then edit it down and broadcast
it. Otherwise, it might be a bit too long and boring.

Of course, doing a live jam is another option, as some of
you mentioned.

yeah, the live jam would be great, but it would probably be
lots of stress.. the exquisite corpse project is the closest
thing to an internetjam being done here on xlt at least, and
with the problems we're having right now, I can imagine a
real live jam would be nearly impossible: latency, chaos,
people having other obligations.. it'd be really difficult,
but if anyone wants to try, I'm in (not in the organising
phase, though, as I foresee trouble).

I think recording it and editting it down is vital. To be
honest I can't really be bothered with streaming audio and I
can't be the only one.

well.. I think that we may loose a part of the process if
it's edited down... of course, this will be for specially
interested people anyway, but I think we should still be
able to round up a few people for listening and maybe even a
few more for doing "shows" later...

the whole idea is interesting.

i dont see why you would have to lose anything in recording
and editting. it just means you dont have to do the whole
track one sitting. example - I will often spend a long time
just looping sections ,listening closely for minor things;
this is not interesting to listen to at all

yeah, the person isn't necessarily going to do the entire
track in one go, but a large portion of it would be
favorable...

anyway... would you be interested in tuning in?
