About two thirds down this page there's a list of guitar pedals. Guess how
much? £15 each. £15. I think I'm gonna faint.....

£15 isn't *ridiculously* cheap. it's the cost of a low-end
guitar pedal. i haven't heard these, but i have used
certain cheap guitar pedals in the past, and they weren't
worth the low cost. they sounded terrible.

Just get a larger-scale effects processor. No need to get
multiple expensive stomp-boxes. Unless you are getting
like, the Ibanez TubeScreamer TS-7, or the Pi Big Muff or
whatever. or the fucking Memory Man, whoever makes that
delay item. And the Heil TalkBox.

alot of highs and lows

even "bad" pedals can be "good" at times. I made a (few)
song(s) using a really bad pedal (it was a reverse feedback
pedal, and it.. well.. it wasn't easy to control, that's for
sure.. it could also create some kind of internal feedback
loop in itself.. I don't know how it did that, but it was
annoying), and they turned out pretty good (after a few
tries with the pedal, tweaking it to avoid it going
tripping) IMO...

hahaha!

how the fuck did you get that to "happen?" Hasn't "pedal"
got some etymological root in latin, where the word means
"foot" or "feet?"

hook them all up to each other, connect one end to a contact
mic, the other to an amplifier, let it run for ten hours,
then release a ten-cd box set of noise music.

Aparently, those pedals are the same inside as a lot of
fancier, more expensive pedals. Behringer has found a way to
reverse engineer a lot of the classic pedals on the market,
and sell them for next to nothing. Hopefully they are good,
because I have heard some good things about that line of
pedals. I need some good cheap overdrive and distortion
pedals.

True, cheap anything sounds awfull. But aparently, and this
is just what I have heard don't know first hand, Behringer
found a way to emulate the circuitry of a lot of established
gear that is worth 10X the money and such, so they might
actually be worth looking into.

"...found a way to emulate the circuitry of a lot of
established
gear that is worth 10X the money"

this is what most of the manufacturers of cheap gear claim.
but 9 times out of 10 they are noisy, sound like crap and
break up very easily. the small plastic danelectros, ibanez
soundtanks etc...
i haven't tried these behringers (though i have a mixer by
them with crap built-in fx...), but i'd expect to get what
you pay for;
even if you could find an ok sound (which i doubt), these
are made of plastic and will most likely break up sooner or
later.
so maybe ok for lofi-goofing & recording but nothing to
depend on.. i'd think

Well, behringer have a hit or miss thing going on with their
effects. Hopefully these can be hits before they are misses.
Aparently what they have done is mass produce one chip for
the entire series, then just changed the connectors around.
If that is true, then these will be a dream to bend. I am
not totally cynical about them. They have already generated
a pretty good ammount of talk, so if they suck, then it will
probly be known soon enough, as well if they are good.
Either way, for $30 its not much of a risk to make a trip to
the store and buy a couple for testing. I am looking forward
to picking up a phaser an overdrive and a distortion. Even
then, if they aint any good, they will be perfect to try my
hand circuit bending with them. :) As well, it could be a
cheap way to build a modular all in one effect matrix. :D

But yeah, I agree build quality sounds cheap. Anybody who
takes a plastic pedal on stage needs to have their head
checked. Nothing says quality like musicians with audio that
cuts out halfway through a performance because they cheaped
out on their effects.

get ...this one if you are getting overdrive... it
will be $40 or so, but it seems to be the high end of their
new budget overdrive line.

was actually thinking about getting one myself for one of my
keyboards... :D

Honestly, if they all do share a microchip, it would almost
be worth throwing a slew of knobs and patchbays into one of
them, giving you access to each and every effect. But that
is just heresay. I am looking forward to what some of the
the cirucuit benders at EM411 have to say about this.

Yeah. I am totally excited. even if the effects turn out
sounding cheap, they still prove as good sound design tools.

Even if they sound crap and digital, it's an effect, isn't
it? Digital distortion is a valid form of processing in its
own right, even if you personally prefer an overdriven tube,
etc.

As to the "nothing cheap can sound good" mentality, that's
nonsense and snobbery. Yes, generally speaking, most cheap
audio gear is very poor, but there are some gems, see
this, for example. I'll reserve judgement on these
pedals till I hear one in action, but I agree that build
quality is likely to suck. If behringer mixers are anything
to go by, they'll be half decent sound quality (for budget
gear), but they make their money on dirt-cheap build
quality.

you do.. these:

ernie ball volume pedal
BOSS ddr-5
MXR 10 band eq
MXR compression
ibanez tube screamer

that's it baby. that's all i ever need. and if i want to
get some super processed guitar i just run it all through my

Ok, I got the OD100. The contruction is a lot more solid
than I expected. Solid jacks and knobs. Packaging was a bit
shit but hey thats okay. Somewhat lighter than other pedals,
probably to do with being plastic. The sound, however, is
really really good, certainly as good as something 3 or 4
times the price. I'm going to get some more of these for
sure.
