just sorting out my id3 tags and that and was just
wondering what genre you put stuff like afx in? does it
depend on the album or is electronica broad enough?

my format for sorting is like so (folders):

Industrial
Noise
Post-Rock
Techno

this is redundant, you only really need two categories--
techno, and everything else is rick james

people on slsk with genres annoy me, because if im in no
particular mood i cant just look through for something that
sounds interesting, i have to go by genre it bugs me. also
when you are looking for something specific more often than
not its been put in a genre folder that you wouldnt really
say was the genre of what you are looking for. like i found
BoC in trip hop for example. its annoying things like that
that cause cancer and aids

putting a genre in the id3 tag doesnt create a new genre
folder suddenly does it? or am i stupid? iver never really
bothered with them before.

ID3 tags are fucked, i leave everything blank in them. i
dont sort music by genre either. i sort by Artist, then
Album into folders.

i like to keep my music files organised via artist and
genre. any rare mp3's i own are kept in a protective plastic
sleeve, so as to keep them in pristine condition.

I use itunes. it apparently does everything for me.

no genres, though.

I never ever everever ever use genres. I don't care about
them. I don't care about ID3 tags either. Everything is
under artist name. Any more than that and I'd go barmy
trying to work it all out.

i think its useful though to say, put certain songs under
christmas genre or something so their easily found on the
ipod for xmas listening...

id3 tags arent fucked.. they will only ever get more and
more useful as meta data continues to be cunningly
exploited... you'll be fucked when you need to search for
something very specifically one day instead of trawling
through 10,000 music files.
