I don't think it's ever been stated catagorically which is
by which, and, in my uneducated opinion, I they are a mix of
tracks by people at Rephlex with AFX and Kosmik Kommando at
the helm. They probably can't even remember who switched on
what drum machine.

I don't want to be mean, Woofty, but when the poll title
said Best early Acid Compilations... I was kind of expecting
a broader choice than these.

house hallucinates pump up london has some of the best acid tracks on it.
trainspotters will be able to spot the mistake in the
discogs listing :)

or maybe i've made a mistake? les adams' remix of the
maurice joshua track wasn't even made until the year after
it was released so fuck knows how it appeared on the album.
in fact i never knew it was les adams that made the remix,
you learn something new everyday i guess.

umm let me see

with the current wave, analord

that luke vibert EP

kosmik kommando "adventures in the dynamic" whatever the
shit mix cd

um...some friends from philly who make acid...

i guess not much really...it just REALLY bores me to
tears...i love how people say its a "squelching acid bath"
or something to that effect - to me thats like saying celine
dion is hardcore

That's not... really it, is it? You've picked some new
things, which are inspired by Acid in a broad sense, and
then, to be fair the U.I's are kind of rudimentray, quite
crude records... and then something that your mates have
done.

So when you say "acid is lame" you MEANT to say "I have no
idea what acid house actually is but that won't stop me from
writing it all off as lame".

well anything house is worthless from the get go...as i see
it...

im open to it...give me another "essential" release...ive
give it a go

im just saying from what i read, hear, and see people lose
their minds over this stuff...and i simply do NOT get it...i
feel left out

Things like this combined the other day with someone saying
Jeff Mills is a shitty trance DJ... lead me to believe that
XLT members should have a mandatory music knowledge
test
. The results would then be analysed giving that
person a rating from "Ignorant" to "Highly Informed" - this
status would then accompany every post you make so people
could decide whether to take what you say seriously, or as
complete bum tripe.

"Jeff Mills, along with Robert Hood, Carl Craig, and Joey
Beltram, is one of the biggest American names in techno.
Championed for his music's relentless pursuit of hardness
and his stripped-down, almost industrial DJ sets, Mills is
the latest in a long line of Detroit-bred talent to take on
an international reputation. A founding member of noted
Motor City institution Underground Resistance, Mills helped
build the artist roster and label ideology (as well as much
of its back catalog) with partners "Mad" Mike Banks and
Robert "Noise" Hood before moving to New York in 1992 to
pursue more vigorously his solo and DJ career (with a
resident spot at the legendary Limelight and a recording
contract with the noted German label Tresor). (Although
rumors of bad blood between the early UR crew have been
denied by all involved, Mills' decision to split was
apparently total, with Banks all but repudiating his
involvement with Mills and Mills distancing himself from the
continuing political militancy of Banks and the UR
organization.) Mills' UR-related releases (including "The
Punisher" and "Seawolf") are stripped-down and erratic,
fusing elements of hardcore acid and industrial techno to
the sparse Detroit aesthetic. Not surprisingly, his post-UR
sound hasn't eased a bit, although UR's penchant for the
four-track has been replaced by higher-quality production."

from www.allmusic.com - and im SURE they know more about
music than you do

do you like jeff mills? from his bio his shit sounds
stupid...of course, as stated before, i think house is
pretty silly and boring - would make sense why i feel this
way towards "acid" and "detroit techno" !!!

I don't know what your point is. Are you saying Jeff Mills
sounds lame now too just going by his bio? Are you saying
you don't like Detroit Techno... Acid House... or anything
vaguely stemming from House? Would it be easier to say what
you do like?

yes to be blunt, i hate house !

i want to understand what the big deal is behind acid cause
i just dont get it...as apposed to giving up on it i wanna
see if there is anything out there im really missing - i
hate it when people dont get to hear a lot of the stuff i
like and i wanna turn them onto new things - hence my issue
w/ acid...

where do i start with what i like...jesus the list is
eternal...lately its been a lot of otis redding, willie
nelson, johnny cash, marc hellner's new album is cool,
vorpal is growing on me, softland, guided by voices, horace
andy, the frogs, devendra banhart, bonnie prince billie,
wire, the feelies, the books, beck, aretha franklin, al
green, rolling stones, ben webster, clifford brown, awol
one, circus, and some more old school hip hop for good
measure...thats what ive been enjoying this week !!!

Nice list. Well, to be honest, if you just don't like House
or things like house or 4/4, which is your right of course,
I can't think of anything, off of the top of my head, that's
likely to change your mind, though I'm by no means an
expert. To me it sounds like you don't like what's broadly
termed "dance music".

But let's use this opportunity, that Woofter squandered with
his threadbare poll, to nominate Acid Classics. That comp
that Earthleakage mentions below holds a few of the
touchstone undisputable gems and founding fathers of Acid
House from the off.

i think i may have ADD, which sounds more ridiculous to me
than to anyone - but people watch me hover around constantly
and think im insane...or hyperactive...

the point of this is i get bored REALLY quickly with music,
UNLESS it moves me - i liked some basic dance stuff earlier
on future sound of london, orb, chemical brothers, etc but
got bored of it after about 2 years - graduated (i guess) to
drum n bass, same thing, got bored, graduated to breakcore /
ragga / etc - again got bored - it just really doesnt grab
me with any lasting power - the surest way for me to lose
interest is a 4/4 thud...

trust me im fully aware this is in my head and not a normal
reaction like most people have - i fell in love w/ a girl
who loved house and it nearly killed...it gave me headaches
(more than mashed up breaks and gabber-esque things do) !

right now im listening to daydream nation by sonic youth -
fuck me what an album...i need to listen to sister when i
get home !
