I always work on tracks i've made, I insert them in cool
edit, work on them, and save them as a new file. Well, just
now for some completely unknown reason the files I inserted
got heavily clipped and damaged (without even saving them as
a session file) they got destroyed for absofuckinglutely no
reason. bad news is i didnt make backups, i didnt expect
such bullshit to ever happen.

i know we all learn lessons while making music, but this was
just a cruel act on my computers part. fucking hell.

You might have saved it as something other than PCM wav.

and by heavily clipped and damaged, i dont mean what they
sounded like once inserted into a multitrack, i mean the
original file.

I don't see why they got destroyed just because you clicked
on it. I would run a virus and spyware check.

since Cool Edit --> Adobe Audition now, try using the new
version/incarnation. I''ve just got it, it looks cool and
has a lot of new features. I've read it's a lot better than
CE. I hope it's true, haven't tested it yet.

I haven't had such a problem yet, thank god.

backups have saved my ass many times so far.

I've had tracks lost, when my computer restarted during a
save randomly in Cakewalk Sonar3.

It's happened a few times and it's awful. I have lots of
copies of the same track under different names, and save
each of them at various times while working on track, now.
