The Campfire Eh...

this album took 3 years to make? "dayvan cowboy" might be
their best song yet, but the rest of the album is kindof
boring, no? like I'd heard it before I listened to it.
there's no real expansion on it.. I'm proud of them for
learning a few guitar chords, but come on.. it seems like
they might've shot their load w/ geogaddi.. although that's
a little early of a call to make.

this is like their "surrender" (ch. brothers).. I dont know
if u get that.. but it reminds me of that album for some
reason

once you've compiled all the results from xlt members and
run the data through that excel synthesis plugin, you get
the new autechre album, xltrlilted. that's a fact. got it
from the november issue of nintendo power.

under it you'll find two possible avatars.

nr.2 is how I made it, nr.1 is how you would've (most

You love it.
You have a secret, special place in your heart for it.
That's why you had to have your own copy.
So you could totally love on it.

Sitting at home, nose pressed against the window,
waiting to catch a glimpse of the postman carrying a Special
Package.

Is that him? Is that mr. postman? It is!

"Mr. postman do you have a Special Package for me?"

"Sorry son. Not today"

"Awww.. but i'm expecting a Special Package."

"A Special Package? That sounds exciting. I'm sure it will
be here before you know it. You just wait and see. And
don't give up hope."

"I won't mr. postman. I won't give up hope."

And he didn't give up hope. He never gave up hope.

I know. I don't know why the 180 all of a sudden. maybe I
had only listened to what I'd later identify as the
highlights of the album.. it's not that I don't like it,
it's that I'm not blown away by it at all.. except that
dayvan song really has me right now. this is after they did
probably the best track of last year.. that clouddead remix

"Perhaps because of the instrument's familiarity it
naturally draws attention to itself, and there's no getting
around that there's not very much happening with the guitar
on most of the tracks where it appears. It adds nice twist,
sure, but nothing more.
"

from pitchfork. they nailed it there. a rare hit.

then I didn't like it, and now I'm really liking it a lot.

I think what threw me at first was reading all the dumb
exaggerated emotional shit people were writing about it, and
I confused my quite justified disgust at their stupidity
with my reaction to the music proper.

This makes me think of soimething else, BING! Back in the
day, for better or worse, you had a few music magazines /
papers with reviews by personalities that, whether you
agreed with them all the time or even liked them, you knew
they knew a lot of music and that they could write. So you
could make a fairly informed judgement on a record, even if
the person gave it a scathing review you could tell if, for
that reason, you yourself would like it.

Now EVERYONE writes, no matter how qualified or with what
motivation. And it just clouds the issue. And with the
loathesome Pitchfork style not ridiculed but emulated in a
billion loveless reviews... when will people just shut up?

True; a balance is needed between the punk ethic of DIY
zines and criticism, and the current situation of everyone
being an obnoxious asshole with an opinion and a blog. I
blame the internets.

I blame the internets. After having "Untilted" thoroughly
ruined for me with the fakes and the hysteira, I didn't
listen to one leak or even read that closely what anyone
said about Teh Headphire Campfase, and, I love the album.
Obviously the two aren't directly releated, TCH could still
have been crappy regardless, but... I just want to hear the
album and the artist, and not have the fanboi/anti fanboi
filter on inbetween.

I didn't 'cheat' or listen to samples or try fakes or read
about the album (read the Pitchfork review after the fact,
on a dare) but I'm still a bit disapointed. Made a great
first impression on me with its production, but I just don't
get aroused when thinking about listening to this album
again. The hooks just don't dig into my skin like earlier
BOC.

i don't think it's a really "hooky" album though. of course
at this point i have my favorite tracks. but i really
can't, like, hum any of them... yet.

There is no other release that I've been anticipating more
than this one. I was dying to hear it. Usually this kind
of anticipation would tend to ruin music (and movies) for
me. I was a actually a little afraid that I would be let
down. So the fact that I was still blown away, that says a
lot about the quality of this release, from my own
perspective of course.

True, yeah, I don't listen to this stuff for ''HOOKS'', per
se... but the problem is, I don't find this album sonically
interesting. It's solid but it sounds exactly like I
expected to, and more importantly, it doesn't FEEL new. So
if it doesn't have the melodies and the musical
attributes... it's got nuthin' to really move me. For me,
anyway.
