I've seen it, it's not ok. I laughed several times. But you
probably have to like Bill Murray.

Of course see the new Schlondorff - Der neunte Tag

L'Enfant won Palme d'Or at Cannes this year, and it's not
anti-bush, so can be good actually.

I liked Trier's Manderlay.

You don't need to see The Intruder, unless you like films
for which you need to make out your own story. It's quite
original, but tiring.

They're hyping "Moj Nikifor" here and it won some awards, so
I think it's not only patriotism. You can check that out.

The Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael - that got some
horrible reviews at the Cieszyn Film Fetival. Sort of
"Irreversible" reaction. Some gratuitous violence adn shalow
psychology.

I read good things about the new Haneke - Hidden

i would suggest you to avoid the spanish ones (both catalan
in fact)...
specially " Nora ljubezen" (idiot love/amor idiota), by mr
ventura pons... one of the imo worst directors of catalonia
who always gets all the subventions... shame...

from that, dead man's shoes. standout so far this year is A
history of violance though

okay:

i've heard the Wayward Cloud is pretty good, but i haven't
seen it... seems a bit odd, you might want to read a bit
about it first... but could be really good.

L'Enfant is pretty great... you should definitely see that

3-Iron is one of these new films from South Korea, a lot of
people seem to dig this dude's stuff (Kim Ki-Duk), might
want to read up more on that one

Cache is fucking amazing, i've now seen it twice and it's
just so well executed... my second favourite film of the
year so far... (and this year because i got to go to
Telluride, and i'm now working at an indie theatre i
actually have seen quite a bit)

Last Days is also really really amazing. since i know you
dig Gus Van Sant, i'm sure you'll really dig this... of his
recent more minimal stuff i think this one is the best. the
sound editing and soundscape work on this film is just so
fucking fabulous.

I still haven't seen Atom Egoyan's new film Where the Truth
Lies, but he's pretty cool usually... i think it's at least
worth seeing... i hear it's got some pretty scandalous
sexual content...
Iron Island is also really good... a pretty interesting
allegory, and very visually tasty.

hope that helps... let us know what you end up seeing!

aw, thanks a lot guys. i hope i can schedule up all those
mentioned!

this planning is always tought, i never know what might come
inbetween but i have to get the tickets because they're
usually sold out in pre-sales.

I haven't noticet The Wayward Cloud on that list. It's
really good, but only if you like Tsai's style. If you do,
you're gonna like it for sure.

3-Iron is said to be one of Kim Ki-Duk's best, but I don't
know. I heard people saying this about all of his movies and
I saw none that was above the level of utter shite (just an
opinion but probably with better grounding that paeans for
this man). It seems to be very trendy now to like Korean
cinema. Like it was with films from South America and Iran
before. Don't believe the hype.

Broken Flowers is the best film I've seen this year
so far OH

Also good: L'Enfant, Caché, Last Days is okay/good I
suppose

Kebab Connection, heh

yeah the only Kim Ki-Duk i've seen is Spring, Summer, Fall,
Winter, Spring... which i didn't really like all that much,
but people seem to dig his films and so i figured i'd at
least mention it... and yeah, Korean cinema is very of the
moment... but Iran really does put out amazing films.
believe the hype.
