"In October 2003, Glover and Dahlgren sank the remains of
a dead, stranded minke whale in 120m of water and monitored
what happened to the carcass over a period of months using
remotely operated vehicles."

some people get all the fun jobs.

thats actually really interesting.

the whole idea of whale falls being food source to a host of
organisms is pretty cool imhotep.

are you kidding or what? that really sounds like a lot of
fun to me. controlling robots exploring a whale carcass
under the ocean? sign me up. that's fuckin cool.

I'm not that much into rotting animals.

you're still watching the whole thing through cameras,
dahlink.

i know this. i am watching the tv monitors and using a
joystick or powerglove to control the robots in the rotting
whale's esophagus. it's not like i'm down there in the
whale - i have robots to do the dirty work! then i would
analyse the computer data on an apple ii or c64 (whatever we
have in the submarine) and find out... uh, if it's really a
whale or something.

when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going
to be a euphamism for "vagina."

funny how people say "save the whales," because this article
says their death is an excellent nutrient ground of many
organisms. but then again, that's just the ecosystem
methinks.
