pandora's groove box

I guess the idea is to analyze a bunch of music and relate
different artists by specific characteristics of the
music.... I tried squarepusher and it gave me some slow
tracks that weren't jazz and then a squarepsher track..
post your results

Wow that's fucking incredible.

PANDORA: Name a band you like.

dog_belch: Echo and the Bunnymen

PANDORA: Hang on a minute..... THERE! "Cutter" a song by
Echo and the Bunnymen.

dog_belch: So you're recommending I listen to Echo and the
Bunnymen based on the knowledge that I like listening... to
Echo and the Bunnymen

PANDORA: *silence*

yeah I got the same thing

then I realized that you can give it song names.... but it
was still shit

I guess it compares the instruments and melody types or
something.... but that doesn't prevent it from recommending
shit music

it recommends a song which 'exemplifies the musical style'
of the artist you choose, then recommends a song by someone
else that is similar, then goes from there.

I think it's too clever for its own good. The list of stuff
it mentions that are present in Echo and the Bunnymen's
music, singularly overlook the most important reasons I like
the band, which are

I wish I was in them
Sense of scope and ambition
I have great memories of listening to them

But, it's easy to scoff, so I say this is an invaluable tool
for finding out new music and I recommend it fully.

if you tell it when you do and don't like the songs it
plays, it'll eventually stop playing shit.

What they should've included in their comparisons is BPM..
why they'd compare ambient stuff to the faster tracks on
druqks I have no idea

the first recommendation... there's something wrong with it

a cd by a band with the dumb name Dressy Bessy. they sound a
bit like the Breeders.

I'm really in the mood for that kinetic kind of melodic
guitar crap lately.

and I immediately ordered the new Pixies live dvd too.
suckerrrrr..
