Leo DeBoe from somewhere in the States. on 2001-05-28 22:23 [#00007401]

Please post your website with music. I want to hear what
everyone is making, and I'd like to know what everyone
thinks about everyone else. Some people like the "Cornwall
Feel" while others like the "London Thing". Just let me know
where your music is, and I will post what I think, and you
do the same.

Here is where you can find mine. It will be in the music
section:

leodeboe.net
This is my homepage, and
it also has a lot of other things, but this thread is
primarily for music. And remember, if you post here, the
feedback may not be what you expect, so lets all keep a
level head. Thank you in advance, Leo DeBoe.

M on 2001-05-28 22:29 [#00007404]

I did a similar post awhile ago and emailed everyone some
feedback. I'll also review everyone that posts here that I
havn't already reviewed and maybe those that I already have
too.
My music is at
www.mp3.com/artificialselection

To keep some sort of order, I suggest that everyone that
posts reviews EVERYONE else that posts. And put the name of
the person you're reviewing first in your review like this.

mr projectile:
bla bla bla bla.

Artificial Selection:

Your stuff is very odd. I like the melodies, at least the
consistant ones. But I like the µ-Ziq style of melody. But
all in all, very nice. Try out some harder percussion,
though.

M on 2001-05-29 17:33 [#00007469]

Leo Deboe:

I was going to wait until a lot of people posted then review
everyone, but I guess no one else wants to play! You
definately have a few songs that I would like to have on cd.
Standout songs are Deep office fishe and the melody from
gyro pleasure. On second listen, jellyfish sex sounds a lot
like bellyache. Deep offishe fish is a good blend of being
complicated but still a comprehendable beat, kinda like the
second song on the second cd of tri repetae by autechre.

Was that a shamless promotion or a shameless SELF promotion?
If you really do have your own music on rephlex,
congratulations! Unfortunately, my stupid mp3 player was
unable to play whatever format it was in. What is this music
like?

HI my names JON. me and my freind used to be in a hardcore
band (rockmusic not electronic) and we decided to try our
hand at blending the too. these recordings kinda suck to us
but alot of non-techno experienced people like them so it
makes us happy. most subject matter is dark inside jokes
between me and my freind.
all recorded with guitars, bass, dishwasher, pots,
telephone, girl having orgasm, synths, acid, and fruity
loops in a bed room with a lamp and a thing of bud light.
we are 18.
if u like it please email us if not. go to hell.

Jon (industry 7):

I think invisible manipulation was a pretty good psychotic
song. All that background yelling ended up pretty cool. It'd
be pretty hard to compete with maralyn manson/ nine inch
nails/ download if you're going for absolutely psychotic.
Your other songs weren't that great. Often a phrase was
spoken and then looped making it too obvious that its a
sample. The second song on your page sucked in my opinion,
so I guess I have to go to hell like you said. I guess the
sound reflects the cheesy equipment you use. I use the
cheese too, though.

JON LOGAN A from DALLAS< TEXAS http://www.mp3.com/ind on 2001-05-31 16:32 [#00007725]

thanx for the critisism.
we are about o get better equipment. this was more of an
experiment. it sound cheesy to us too, but we think it will
get better weve only been doing this for like a month or
so.
thnx
jon
p.s. you don't have to go to hell.

Rob Fragilenine:

You already know I like your music. I downloaded g987, and
thought it was pretty cool too. It's pretty chaotic and
doesn't take itself seriously, like a fun videogame. It
gives the feel of a simpler version of come to daddy mummy
mix. Ambisplot is still my favorite so far.

Chris Ochre from rhymes with bum (www.mp3.com/ochre) on 2001-05-31 23:04 [#00007777]

I'm sure you're all bored with my shite. I haven't done any
new shit, but if anyone hasn't checked out my stuff then by
all means do, please. URL in location bit.

Leo:
You music's pretty minimal, at least from the tracks I heard
the other day on your site (nice site by the way ;) ) but I
certainly liked what I heard. You can string a melody or
two together, that's for sure. Keep it up.

M:
Listened to the first two tracks on mp3. First song has a
really fucked beat with a weird little cheap synth lead.
Interesting beat, but didn't do anything for me
unfortunately. Great sounds though.
What synths do you use? I can hear a lot of computer
game-type sounds, which might comne from a QuadraSID or
something. Very 8-bit computer chip.

Some more mad shit on the second tune with what sounds like
some cut-up vocals a la BoC. Some great sounds, but I
really missed a little tune or two.

Jon:
I checked out your first two songs too. The first one
really reminds me of Orbital (just that particular synth
patch, mainly) and has got some rather fucked up vocals
(you?). There's quite a bit of tension in there, huh? ;P
Fairly hardcore, I'd say...
Second track - don't like the distorted kick (just reminds
me of gabber when on a 4/4 *shudder*. It could really do
with something else on it, as the bleep in the background
gets on my tits. I do like the weird vocal shit you've got
going on in the background, though.

TekN010G:
1st track: Nice stuff. I wasn't too sure about the synth
patches - what do you use? But there's some pretty cool
rhythms in there.
2nd track: Like the start, cool build. Waiting for
something to kick in... I reckon it'd be cooler if
something really kicked in after the tense opening, as the
4/4 beat doesn't sem powerful enough.

Hope you guys don't mind my comments. If you could check
out my stuff I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,

Chris.

I apologize for not keeping very tight on this, but I have
been extreamely busy. I will get back here tomorrow and
check out everything. "P.S.- Thanks about Dragonfly
Reserve."

yes those are my vocals. i used to be in hardcor band but we
broke.
we recorded the vocals in a restroom because of the good
"harmonics" and we just hung th mic over the shwer curtain
rod. it worked nicly i think

TekN010G (serial rate)-

gesner tetner- I'm guessing that's some acronym you came up
with. It's hurts too figure it out.
I guess I'm supposed to critique this or something. I forgot
why I even like music. It's pointless for me to say whether
I like or dislike something, it's subjective and no one
cares. I suppose I like your music. The first 2 songs had a
distinctive personality- nice to listen to, macine feed
wasn't very good. It's probably one of those songs that
needs multiple listens because it is complicated and the
brain can't understand it the first time around. The third
song had personality but it was too long, I didn't listen to
it all. I suppose I can understand how you made this
organized sound and therefore, for some reason, it no longer
presents a puzzle or a challenge and isn't really
interesting. It's still fun to listen to and see different
blends/ flavors/ mixes of the same basic idea. I guess I
like the mental part only of music only or something. I feel
this way about everyone else too not just you. So far, I
like everyone's stuff that I've heard about equally. This
review didn't even make sense, you caught me on a weird day.
Sorry, it was good though.

M from Fraggle Rock on 2001-06-02 10:22 [#00007975]

od (orange dust)

I think I go through phases where I only like creating music
and then where I only like listening to others. I forget why
I even create "music" until I'm inspired by other people
like aphex/autechre. Why any genius would focus their most
powerful attention to creating a piece of organized sound is
beyond me. It's partly neurotic I think. Your songs are
cartooney and great. It reminded me of why I even listen to
music, because I think I forgot for awhile. It's
entertainment. It allows your brain to play with itself.
Aside from videogames, music is my next favorite
entertaining thing. Without these 2 things, I'd probably
just shoot myself- the rest of my time and most everyone
else's is spent selling my soul to whatever hellish beast to
make money 8 fucking hours a day at least. This music is
similar to the type of cartoons where anthropomorphic
animals outsmart eachother by killing eachother more
thoroughly with more inventive bombs and gizmos each time.
It's probably good for quite a few multiple listens before
the entertainment value would wear off, like anything else.
This stuff is very entertaining, I think it has something
that for some reason attracts me to it more than the other
stuff I've heard. I guess I feel like writing today. This
post will be erased from existance eventually, but I guess
written words are recorded and preserved and last longer
than spoken ones. But who cares. Or something.

deleterboy:

I was just going to drop by and check out a song or two but
I was so impressed I'm reviewing you out of order. I think
I'll download all your songs. This is the best stuff I've
heard in quite awhile. You definately have a similar and
great style throughout all your tracks. There are so many
subtle things, it sounds like you took forever on each
track. And it's the type of music that actually sounds
really really good even though it does something quite
different from the ordinary. It sounds like complicated
percussion except half of the intricate drums are replaced
by sounds that change pitch and create terrific melodies.
I'd really like to hear your new stuff too. Thanks for
bothering to upload them all so morons like me can be
entertained by them.

od from perth on 2001-06-03 14:40 [#00008105]

M,
thats probably the weirdest thing anyone has said about
tracks in general (that ive heard) let alone my stuff.....
but it actually makes a lot of sense.
thanks a lot!!!

M from Fraggle Rock on 2001-06-04 08:03 [#00008178]

Ochre:

Thanks for being one of the few to review other people back.
My stuff sounds 8 bitish, I know, because I use a completely
free crappy program (modplug tracker) and the same old
pallette of samples for all my songs. I do actually have
some melody songs: sidia ocean, plight of inchworm, & blue
crayons from melted smurfs. I'd rather you be honest like
you were, and I'm pretty used to people not liking my music
so no problem. Thanks for listening!

Your music is more serious than most of the others. I
listened from the top all the way down to electroshock
stopclock. The stuff towards the bottom seems quite
different from the stuff on the top (I like the top better).
The bottom stuff sounds like it has influences of playing in
a non-electronic band. Your style seems to be to have drums
on one side and melodies on the other, a fine distinction
between the two. The drums are short bursts of sound and the
melody tones are much longer bursts. Low gravity freefall
high altitude mix (my favorite) does this quite well. In
most of your other songs, the melodies were quite good, but
some of the drum patterns were rather weird (electroshock
stopclock). They have an awkward beat. (Low grav had a nice
beat though). Some of your songs took some weird turns like
moonlight sonata. I think that when you bring a whole lot
of different elements into a composition, it makes it less
self-similar and not sound as good actually. Fractals look
so cool because they are self similar.

od from perth on 2001-06-04 09:19 [#00008181]

Jamiroquai:
i really like your tunes, somehow i never get sick of
travelling without moving. I always listne to it on long
walks. The digeridoo tracks are the best ever. And the
somewhere youve never been before is dead cool too.
Could have been a little longer tho (the CD).
what? he doesnt visit here?

Chris Ochre from Newcastle, UK. (www.mp3.com/ochre) on 2001-06-04 19:27 [#00008231]

M,
I mean 8-bit-ish in a good way, I like lofi beats and
sounds, I just like nice tunes too. I'll have to have a
listen to those other tunes.

Yeah, the Low Grav remix is my latest track, while Moonlight
Sonata was my first track, written about a year ago (I just
chucked everything into that track, probably an unwise
idea). I reckon I'll continue in the vein of Low Grav and
Children Playing With Lego.

Cheers for listening anyway, 'preciate it. Hope everyone on
this board continues to make music.
