after depp did that amazing job in fear and loathing in las
vegas hes now starring in an adaptation of hunters Rum Diary
which i think is out next year (you'll have to check imdb)
Im really hoping its as good as fear and loathing seeing as
i adored that film (and book), although Gilliam isnt
directing this one.
I havent read the Rum Diary, is it any good? Im assuming it
is as everything else by Hunter ive read is amazing.

im hoping its not the same thing as Fear and Loathing
obviously but i just hope depp is basically playing Hunter
in it. Supposedely before filming Fear and Loathing Hunter
and Depp spent 2 months living together which would prolly
explain why Depp was amazingly realistic at playing Hunter.

any film with depp is nice (well, except for one or two)..i
doubt he'd get involved with a film based on thompson's
story if he wasn't intrigued by the script or had confidence
in the director. i think he respects thompson too much.
shave that head! WOO!

hehee yer
i highly doubt it will suck but i dont wanna put my neck on
the line for a guy who, after years of playing underdog
roles in wierd low rent films (which i admired loads), to
suddenly being mr WILLY WONKA himself. Im kinda hoping he
can be as awsome as he was. Shame theres prolly no room for
Benito in this one though :(

'Where The Buffalo Roam' has been released on DVD, so I'll
be buying that next week since a) I love HST, and b) I love
Bill Murray, and I suppose c) it's been supposed to be good
and Murray is apparently very good in it.

The Rum Diary is an excellent book, better than Fear &
Loathing in my estimation, but obviously less appealing to
the majority of F&L fans.

Oh, and having read the full thread title, Rum Diary is
nothing like Fear And Loathing. This is a 'serious'
novel, fictionalising his time when Hunter lived in the West
Indies (forgotten which island) and worked as a journalist.

oh dude i dindt actually mean to suggest it was anything
like fear and loathing, it was more a means to inform people
whod seen fear and loathing but dindt really know who HST
was.

btw, Where the Buffalo Roam is good, but a little strange.
Bill Murray starts off the film as if he's playing a
caricature of Hunter, like he's "acting," but by the end,
you can see himself completely immersed in the role.

I heard somewhere that he had to spend several years after
the movie trying to unscramble his brain. Interesting shit.

Puerto Rico was the island that I thought it was, but I
didn't like to commit it to 'ink' in case I embarrassed
myself :)

For another perspective, read Sonny Barger's book -- he
mentions Hunter in it and he does not like him.
Funny. Also, I believe Hunter in connexion with the Angels
is mentioned in one of tom wolfe's books - possibly Electric
Kool-Aid Acid Test - if memory serves, he relates Thomson
rolling into Leary's Millbank estate with some Angels.

ken keasey and the merry pranksters are the ones who chilled
with/smoked out/got the hells angels into acid in electric
kool aid.

unless im awfully mistaken and my memory is shot [which it
is] hst isnt ever mentioned in electric kool aid.

Well we are yet to see this come into fruition :( what a
shame.
Just like when Darren Aranosfsky was going to direct Batman:
Year One and The Fountain with Brad Pit.
Bloody Hollywood.

Buddy Holly would. :P
