do you distinguish between the use of "freedom" and
"liberty," and what is the difference (to you as a person.
fuck dictionaries!)?

liberty is the right to and the right to use freedoms.
freedoms are personal erm..... liberties.

fuck, don't ask me, i'm just an english major.

hmm... i guess "liberty" has a little bit more of a
political connotation than freedom.

I'd go with Liberty because I think GW Bush has rendered the
word "freedom" into just some abstract sound through
constant use.

i just don't think i hear the word "liberty" used outside of
political discussions very much.

ah, ok... so it's not necessarily implicit in the word, but
more... contextual..?

i think freedom is when you're free from things that can
hold you down, like the man, and liberty is a statue...

"freedom from" vs "freedom to?"

oh, no.. wait, I didn't get the link at first.. statue of
liberty, of course. I thought you were speaking in some
metaphor that I didn't bother to decipher, so I guessed.

nevermind.

yes, for example. "i'm finally free from the man, and now i
am free to go" (anythign else after that is irrelevant)

I think they are two meaningless words invented to make
people feel good about themselves and about their lives -
from the time we are dependent upon our parents to feed us
and clothe us as babies until the time we are dependent upon
whoever it is who stuffs us in the ground or in an urn, we
are always in bondage to someone or something.
