Ok.
That snare sound drives me nuts... too hollow and the gating
is annoying. Cut from some break i'm not too fond of to
boot.
The hi-hats that come in are a nice attempt at aphex drukqs
era cut up stuff but it's not frenetic enough and it sounds
really... "obvious". I actually like the ring mod work but
it's marred by the fact that it's covered in pretty awful
samples :<.

As for the BEEP MAP melody... yes I've caught you. You're
obviously a fruity loops user (which I fucking love
honestly) and it shows. Rule number 1 of flp use: if you are
using beepmap, cover it up so you don't give yourself away!
Try automation of the rate at which it reads the image if it
doesnt crash, and experiment with pitch modulation, and try
to stay away from the "Linear" setting on the generator!

Hope that wasn't too harsh!

Not at all, thanks for listening. What the fuck is a beep
map melody though? :P I haven't ever used Fruity Loops :)
It is a combination if a glass synth patch and some pitch
shifting/delay through Max/MSP :)

I will change some of the samples...I always do :)

Jack: thanks for listening.

Congratulations you must be very proud.

But I have no idea what you mean by this doesn't sound like
Max to you...how does something sound like Max?

I like this much better than your previous one. There is
more variety in the complexity and it isn't whitenoiseish
sounding and as a whole is pretty close to autechre's latter
tracks. I agree the snare sounds off... like from a drum
sample pack whereas the other percussion does more
interesting stuff, although often your tracks seem to be
works in progress and you intended to change something like
this anyway.

no need to be a prat :>
it sounds like beep map to me. that is all!

Do you have to meticulously program the subtle stuff or only
the program and it meticulously programs the subtle
stuff... ie. after you make the code or whatever, can you
easily generate like 5 hours of this general type of
construction with it (and the code adds subtle changes
similar to what was in this 30 second clip somewhat
randomly)?

haha, yeah after I clicked submit on that one I thought I
had been a bit of a tit, it was a reactionary reply which
was a bit stupid. :P

The drums are hand sequenced in this track. I just used Max
for some audo processing.

However in sequencing these drums I have had a good idea and
will be translating it into generative stuff at a later date
:)

what does the... interface to max look like if you don't
mind... is it like a word processor (c++ish)? And do you
have to learn a completely new language unique to it to use
it?

In my experience your music has all the heart and soul of an
unplugged robot and this is no different. Everything you do
sounds like you've chucked it out in five minutes, with all
the disdain of an oversexed mandroid. I was going to say
"this is no crticisim", but I guess it is. However it's only
my opinion and is not born from malice, I wish you'd do a
longer track becuase I believe you have the skills but most
of the time I feel you can't be remotely bothered.

Heh... The beep map sounds like every other color organ out
there. But its very limited in its possibilities.

The best way to pin down flp is through listening to the
rigid programming.

that classic jazz thingie with all the toms...

yeah, what can I say, I'm shit. I do these things but I'm
not good enough to do full tracks, everytime I try I end up
with nothing because I can't get melodies to sound like they
do in my head. I'll just keep pissing about and only post
never. Thanks for listening everyone.

Man you're getting a lot better

The placement of each drum is way better than I remember
from you... 30 seconds is not enough for that piece. Damn
skippy you're good enough to do full tracks, you gotta find
a way to keep running with the cool beats

very nice drums, with some nice tweaks in the filtering
thereof. i like the very distant dark synths in the
background. so far, i like it. perhaps some timbre
underneath?

nice.

one of the coolest things i've heard from you is still
'deadofnight'.

I quite like it. The synths aren't my thing, but the crunchy
drum sounds used are excellent.

If you feel "left out", why not join in with this
compilation? :)

I quite liked this, mostly because of the drum groove. And
yeah, nothing "sounds" like Max/MSP because it's INCREDIBLY
versatile. Not everything made in it has to sound like LP5,
you know!

Anyway, I won't continue on with tips on how to improve it,
because you'll find out shit like that for yourself as you
evolve your style. It shouldn't really be necessary to tell
you what I would like to hear when it's you making
the track! Also, I hate getting too technical on message
boards. Cool tune!

honestly i dont understand why ppl do this with trax - no
offense
why do u have to ask other ppl if something u just made is
any good or not ? shouldnt u be yr own best critic ,trust yr
own ears

On this one nothing much. I was experimenting with realtime
audio manipulation, only problem is that my laptop has only
two channels so basically I can only work in mono at the
moment which is sort of shit, so I exported a bar of the
synth and pissed about with that instead as a sample.

Everything I have done in MaxMSP so far is just
experimentation through interest. I haven't posted most of
the stuff because people just say its shit.

I do trust my own opinion it is just that sometimes other
people hear things you don't hear yourself or make
suggestions that lead to new ideas etc.

well, i don't do just noise for your concern...

and sometimes music production isn't just random beatz with
nonsence melody on top of it.
what do you want to achieve with this...did you manage to
put feelings inside or are you just searching?

I'd loop the beginning (with mainly the beat sounds) a few
more times, before the weird melodic-ish elements come in.
Then loop that second bit a few more times...I'd gladly
listen to a few repeats of it...I don't reckon you need to
change so quickly.

Maybe keep the beats going (but variate them) and add some
atmospheric elements which grow in intensity. I know that
sounds cliched, but it could really work.
