I love dearly all the HorseF tracks, he definitely has his
own sound, or I don't know, if not sound as such it's in
the attitiude and judgement, and his judgement is
unfailingly spot on. Despite the fact I took my headphones
off early on in the track erroneously thinking "Who the fuck
is that playing music outside my house at this fucking hour"
when in fact it was HF's own drums kind of in the distance,
this builds relentlessly... at 1:00 it already has your
plums firmly cupped, you don't know what he's going to do
with them, bit of break down, you think you're safe, you
think he's gone as far as he's going to... AGGGH then
you're drop kicked into some alternative dimension where
it's simultaneously (sp?) the 80s, the 90s and 2010.

The rare offerings from Mr D are always, always a velvet
lined treat.

I didn't like this one much. Usually you have a nice but
fairly simple repetitive beat but then put an excellent
melody on top. I didn't like the droning notes in this one
but the beat was similar to your usual.

out, (a little bit MIDI). But I'm loving the whole laptop

I really like the reverb on the snare hit, that's silky,
it's almost like a delay but it's smooooth. Very catchy beat
because of it, pulls the whole thing together.

Whoa... organ is a little overpowering, just drowned out
everything else, I know there's some interesting drum stuff
going on after it came in but it's hard to focus on. Drop
that pad down some, it's just waaaay too loud

And then it... stopped? Man you got to extend this, there's
so many cool things you could drop over this to keep it
going. Especially with that end, it's just calling for a
boom boom to keep it going

it would be longer if cubase hadn't crashed, or i had saved
more often - i really can't get the drums the same (i've
tried all weekend) so i can't add any more to it. i know
what you mean about the organ, i was trying to make it
slightly less overbearing but i wanted it to be a lot louder
than the rest of the track - thanks for listening.

oh shut up about those drums already!!!

sure, it's annoying that you lost them. sure, you thought
they fitted perfectly.

cubase crashed, the drums are gone, make a new track out of
what you have. don't make such a big deal out of it.

surely you can come up with new ideas, Sam!

offline horsefactory from 💠 (United Kingdom) on 2005-09-25 17:46 [#01733944]

no, you're right - i could use the synths and make something
new with them, but i have problems doing that kind of thing.
i feel like the original idea has gone completely to waste
and that anything new would be inferior, so i just give up.
i like to do things in one go, where possible, so that i
know i won't forget what i want it to be like or have to
come back to it later with some different intention, if that
makes any sense.

yeah, I know what you mean, I pretty much figured you work
that way.

a project has become 'cold' and therefore it's hard to
continue.

one way to circumvent this is to let it lie for a long time
and then returning to it with fresh ears.

that's because you can't let go of the original thoughts you
had about the pieces. if you let those go, it shouldn't be
too big a problem.

Wanker. It's shit when people don't listen to the music

I've been listening to this track the last couple of days

Yeah, I mean, when I said it was good, it was kind of a
given that it needed some more cut up breaks, at least
36,000 variations of the melody, a special computer to make
sure that no beat was every repeated, someone to tell me
what I like and what I don't like. The only thing that's
missing is the link to your loveless beat wankery currently
enjoyed by over 12 "headz".

I don't make music. I never said it needed 'breakz'. I don't
think its asking much for the basic elements of a 'song'.
Does it take a fuckin genious to write a melody? Anyone can
throw together a few patterns, slap some reverb on midi
drums play 3 notes for 4 bars and call it a song. The way
you praise this shit sounds like an emo kid expressing his
feelings for 'death cab for cutie'.

It also doesn't take a genius to spell genius properly but
some people can't even do that.
