Exile, Pro Agonist

I'm not normally into d 'n' b (or Planet-Mu stuff), but
Exile is really something. It's just brilliantly produced,
vibrant and funny music. Lots of big drops, weird sounds,
nice melodies, lovely programming and throbbing bass lines.

Check him out.

It's not really drum&bass though, kind of different :)

Where you the one who did that thread on him a while ago
linking to his page on Planet-Mu? If so, thanks a lot! :-)

Maybe, don't remember.

Skink : that's a pretty off comparison to be honest :)

is anyone who uses mashed up breaks a pusher wannabe? sad
truth is whether they are or not there is not much new
ground to cover in that territory..... exile was great at
the first mu rave up at elektrowerkz though , better than
uziq i reckon.

I think I have a reverse engineered version somewhere on my
hard-drive, how come?

I'll admit he is similar to Squarepusher, but it's still
really enjoyable stuff, and a lot better then most other
breaks/mashup-ish albums I've heard.

I'd just like to state once again that comparing Exile to
squarepusher is simply moronic. They are not close to
eachother what so ever.

Listening to it again, I'd say "moronic" is a little strong,
but the sound of, say, Go Plastic, is completely different
to this album. You're right.

The more I listen to this the better it becomes. The
production really is stunning, and the basslines are so
fucking nice. When it drops into more "regular" and
repetitive d 'n' b you just wish you were at Electrowerkz or
something.

I stick by "moronic" claim, their styles are miles apart.
Exile makes drum&bass with some added "complexity". Some of
the tracks on the album is a little more "idm" though, but
the essential Exile "sound" is still drum&bass with all it's
reeses, hoovers and tramens.

Squarepusher doesn't make anything that sounds like
drum&bass at all, sometimes jungle, but not drum&bass.

And even if you look away from the sounds they use, their
grooves, arrangements and styles are not even close.

ps. I'm not saying that you're a moron, but claiming that
his style is close to squarepusher is just wrong.

Fair enough, I can see where you are comming from. :-)

I'll definately be looking out for Exile's next live event.
I've heard he improvises a fair bit, and really gets the
crowd going.

Yeah, have you seen his reaktor-video? It shows how he
performs stuff, really great system in my opinion!

sounds nothing like squarepusher . its a similar comment to
'venetian snares is a afx wannabe' which you probably
believe too.
