yes yes. look, what is so wrong if i don't think of this
album that much? im really trying to get into it, not just
saying that. and i admit the 2nd song is brilliant and i
always think man im going to start loving this album. but
then 3rd song comes and then 4th, 5th.. and then i just keep
skipping tracks..just not my thing i guess. and the 2nd
song's got those layers you were talking about but i don't
hear them in other songs..stoned or sober, they're just not
there.
im going to write a review on this, and i'll just have to
lie that it's not that bad which is really sad. im sorry for
not liking it but what can i do?

I played it in the car today and my mum said, well, this is
the conversation.

Dog_Belch's Mum: "This is lovely music, what is it?"

dog_blech: "It's the Boards of Canada, mother"

"The Boards of Canada?"

"Yes mother dear, the Boards of Canada, though haha
they're actually from Scotland."

"Oh, and what sort of music is this?"

"Ummm, ambient."

"Oh, it sounds like one of those relaxation tapes, I bet
it's one of those really."

*non-commital noise*

So, hat0rz of the BOC, my mum likes it, and if you want to
diss her, then, well, you better step back.

two more cents, it's not bad but not great, maybe slightly
better than mediocre. there are predictable, cliche guitar
riffs repeated until they wear out their welcome, and a
dearth of any particularly interesting ideas. even the
rising-pitch arpeggiated boc signature bloop-sound feels
tired. it's not so much that they fail to build on their
too-familiar sound; they borrow elements that have been
burned out.

i think the bibio album does the lofi folk guitar better.

the last greg davis album did the guitar/electronic approach
better.

fennesz uses guitar to far greater effect.

the last freescha album (what's come inside of you) was more
innovative and inventive, and they're cited occasionally as
boc ripoffs.

their lazy hip hop beats are too lazy, their guitars too
uninspired.

than again, i was disappointed with mhtrtc and abpoitc when
i first heard them, and they both grew on me, and i've only
heard tch once. geogaddi has yet to grow on me.

there might be three cents there.
