I'd be really happy with a live album of theirs. When I saw
them at SE1 and at the rave yesterday, they blew all their
album material out of the water.

if the stuff theyve been playing live is what some future
material is going to sound like, then, HOLY SHIT.....

CS2x do you think anyone recorded the material played
yesterday?? what variations could you notice between it and
what was played months ago?

It was fairly similar to the SE1 club set, in terms of the
general structure and that WICKED build up at the end. ;-) A
lot of it was based on the first track's three-hit triplet
thing, although live it sounded a lot more impressive.

Even if the structure and overall sound was similar, there
was a lot of variation between this gig and the last. I
can't remember many specific differences, as I just couldn't
get over the complexity and pure energy that was in the
tunes this time; though the middle section droned on a bit,
the huge climax made up for that, and it was even more
impressive then the climax at the SE1 club (they introduced
a weird super loud throbbing bassline and the beats were
completely different, though both had these weird industrial
clagining noises and wailing synths.)

Both sets began in a similar, minimal beat-driven way, and
had these brilliant sub-bass sounds running all the way
through, but I reckon this set had more melodic elements and
I heard more of Untilted throughout (though it was very
mashed up and you could hear that they were imrpovising a
lot with the source material.)

Sorry for the long post, I just found it a really inspiring
gig overall. :-)

fucking awesome. i seriously honestly hope someone has a
goood recording of it. most variations i notice between the
already existing sets is with the, like you said WICKED ass
build up at the end. and in the beginning - certain pieces
of beats played later are cut in. that shit is so fat i
could shove my tongue up my own nose

Uzim's kinda right.. you might not want to get your hopes
up. In the broad scheme of Autechre releases we're still in
the direct aftermath of Untilted. That was two years after
Draft 7.30, which was two years after Confield (here my
memory starts getting hazy on exact dates..). If the
pattern holds then it's gonna be a while. As far as an EP
goes, that might be a possibility, but I like CS2x's idea of
a live album. That's one thing they haven't officially done
yet, and I think it could work. The Glasgow soundboard is
ace, and I loved their Austin show.

Anyway, just be glad you don't feel this way about Boards of
Canada. Because after Campfire Headphase you might as well
hang yourself.

Is Campfire Headphase really that bad? I only heard one or
two tracks, and they were "ok" I guess, but nothing more.
:-S

Ah well, I just got back into Untiled lately anyway as a
result of the two amazing Ae gigs I attended, so that'll
keep me busy. They really made the DJ sound flat afterwards,
even when he was playing pretty good techno. That wasn't his
fault-it was just that Ae was intense.

I have my suspicions that Untilted was written *after* they
developed the live set that has so thoroughly rocked our
skullls.

I can see them both coming to the realization that they were
sitting ontop of something truly remarkable, but didnt know
how to release it in album form, let alone just go out on
tour with it, without said album to contextualize what they
were doing in these sets. Hence Untilted came after they
got this live set up formalized (maybe).

Anyhows, its just a theory given what was said on Warp about
the album prior to its release, and subsequently taken down
once the fakes started surfacing.

In any case, I think releasing a live album would be a bit
of a Pearl Jam move, but could in fact set precendent given
the expectation that most people are just pressing "play" in
contemporary electronic music performances. Though, I
would much rather have a new EP or maybe another DVD
project. I know this shit takes a long time to write, but I
have my guesses that they are sitting on a surplus of
unreleased tracks...

For example, I would love to hear a finished track with that
dope ass classic AE melody that comes in around 30 min into
the glasgow recording.

That could well be true. Whatever the case, the style of the
album and the way their live stuff sounds is related, and I
can see that Untilted branched off from the idea of a "live"
feel.

Oh do shut up. You're talking out of your ass. Their live
sets are obviously a treatment of the album, not vice versa.

Confabulation Syndrome
Their brains produce fast and loose hypotheses but,
crucially, fail to check them for accuracy. Instead,
confabulators experience a "pathological certainty" that
whatever springs to mind is simply true, despite
overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Their inability to
cross-check their beliefs blocks them from acknowledging how
deeply flawed their claims are; accordingly, they can't
perceive or even conceive their own deficits.

I think we're missing the important thing here.

People want new Autechre yet the collaboration with the
Hafler Trio, whilst limited, doesn't sell out quickly.
Consider yourselves fools for passing up awesome music.

CS2x: oops, sorry.. I must have not made my joke clearly
enough. I have not heard a single track from Campfire
Headphase yet, I'm trying to force myself to wait til
October. I really have no idea if it's good or not! I was
commenting on the fact that they take sooooo long to release
anything, seeing how Geogaddi was 2002. I was trying to
draw a contrast between their release habits and that of
Autechre's (which are short by comparison). sorry for the
mixup!

cygnus: Ah, yes I wish I would have known you were there! I
would have bought you a drink or something. Did you have a
good spot? I was with a few friends pretty close to the
front, and it sounded great.

Heheh, my bad.

Yeah, they take their time, don't they? I mean, it's
beautiful music but I can't see why it takes them so long to
create it. Perhaps I'm just ignorant regarding the work that
goes into their stuff.

I'm actually glad they take their time. They don't take too
long but they keep you in anticipation of new stuff. With
snares, there's so many releases it's quite hard to keep up
and also enjoy each one or listen to it properly. Autechre;
you get a good chance to listen to the album and form a good
view of it.

I agree; I like the anticipation and the lengths between
Autechre albums in comparison to the likes of VSnares
(although I enjoy some of his stuff.)

But BoC is a different matter imho. Of course, it does help
their sense of mystery and all that...but still.

It's easy to do so. When I got it I fucking got stoned put
on headphones and layed down. It's subtle, detailed,
textured and a bit quiet in parts. I couldn't stand
listening on my laptop though since the soundcard is so
shitty I couldn't help but hear all the little chirps and
bleeps it picks up from thecomputer's innards; really
distracting.

Both still in print as far as I know. this is the first one
although I think the hafler trio has since condemned
phonometrography for bad business practices or some picky
bullshit like that. The second one is on another label and
I don't have it yet.. the first one's pricetag (which used
to be 20 pounds) set me back for a while..

Well I stand corrected :)

I though there was only one run of the first one and that it
was limited? Maybe I'm confusing things here.

The label was apparently taking a majority of the money or
something and not giving Hafler their fair share or
something. I'll have to search to get the details again.
