classy track. pop idm? brilliant.

windowlicker the track i think has too much dsp fuckery type
novelty shit going on, pretty disposable imo. relative to
the enormously high standards of the previous five or six
releases. the melody gets boring and repetitive, it's too
long, and the song should've ended before the over-distorted
electric guitar-sounding part comes in. i think the video
sums it up, it's a joke.

the second track, come on no one's ever listened to that
more than once.

third track is the only thing that makes it worth the money.

It definitely doesn't fit in with the rest of his stuff at
all. He must have been on a hip hop experimental phase, and
I do agree w/ fuckwagon that it's most likely not meant to
be taken very seriously.

warps best seller for YEARS? a deliberate attempt to grab a
nonchalant audience from the depths of other genres? a stab
at critics? a 2 fingers up at everyone who said he can't
write for the masses?

im my eyes, genius. make your own mind up.

If it gets some kids into Aphex that's cool. I love the
metal guitar sound at the end and wish it would go on for
another couple of dozen bars.

Nuts, I've been listening to aphex since he started putting
out records. So I have had the benefit of getting suprised
with everyone else. Instead of looking back on the music
after the fact.. Windowlicker kicks ass. Totally
revolutionary for the time, too. An ableton live track
before there was ableton live. Love the melody, love the
bassline. A beautiful song. Nanou is of couse incredibly
inventive, too. Everything is a joke to Rich. You know that.

Oh, but my real fav from this release is the scratch edit
from the video. Love that stuff. Wish it would get released.
Goes to show you how light years ahead he is to hiphop
producers.

"has too much dsp fuckery type" yeah maybe, but it's the
tightiest DSP anybody has ever done, over you know, "normal"
sounds.

Richard exactly got what he wanted with that song. Its
exactly what he wanted to pastiche, and its done perfectly.
It's all there, in the DSP'ed-80's-Quincy-Jones-production.
If you want to laugh, check out Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be
Startin' Somethin'", it's like the exact fucking thing, it's
so great, with that bass low in the mix and those dry drums.
And those guitars are the best thing in the song.

But you're right it might not be the type of stuff we want
from him. ;)

I just listened to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album...
damn that was good electro for that time. Quincy had one
hell of a great production crew.

The whole feel of Windowlicker can be found in that album,
from the guitars of "Beat it", the hand clap soft drums of
"Thriller" and "Wanna be Startin' somethin'".

That doesn't make me a paedophile

what is it with people and comparisons. Aphex just had a
change to pop IDM, so what the fuck? Love the EP, and yeh,
the mathematicle equation is pretty much a joke, but i can't
say i really dislike it... or am i just nuts while saying
this?

wicked stuff there, especially the production. Now I'll
