excellent album. probably my favourite aphex above all.
i ended up learning some of the piano tracks back in the
day... that was pushing 5 years ago people.

retirement!? god no! i hope he releases tunes til he's like
in his 90's or until he dies. or if he stops releasing stuff
he'd come clean and put to rest all of the rumors and what
not and reveal which projects he's worked on in the past and
put to rest all the rumors. unlikely but a fan can dream i
guess.

I find myself listening to Drukqs more than any other RDJ
release these days. Sure, I was in love with the RDJ album
when it was released, but I reckon Drukqs is still fresh. I
love everything on the album: "Mt. Saint Michel...,"
"Ziggomatic 17," "Bbydhyonchord," the piano pieces, the
concréte style "Gwarek2," and the lovely "Btoum-Roumada"
and "Plenty Harmonium."

Disapeared completely after this album? You are nuts! How
can you say that? I notice you mention how much time it took
to make. Do you like the way it sounds or marvel at the
amount of work it would have took? Analord 10 wouldn't have
been heard, for one. A masterpiece. You are cray elusive.
You never have enough afx. (I wrote this without reading
thecrimsonguard's post) we must be kindred spirits.

no im sorry Pigster I cant recommend anything that even come
close to this album :) in this style....and by the way I got
the same album as u ;) with Mangle etc :) but I also love
the real deal with those lovely piano tracks!!!!

Best electronic music album EVER in this style, hands
DOWN!!!

this is the last release where you'll find rdj putting
effort into his music.

yeah, drukqs, best electronic ever! people have said a
single CD would have been much better, that is what pigster
is on about, the best 10 tracks on a 55 minute CD. It works
great like that, opening with vordhosbn and closing with
"thankyou for your attention, bye" on the last track which
is ziggomatic 17. bon appetite:)

All because music doesn't have fast drum fills and morphing
hats doesn't mean there wasn't any effort.

I think Drukqs, when we're gonna look back at this "idm"
period of electronica music (circa 1995-2005 or more), is
gonna be the "Dark Side of the Moon" of the whole genre.
Some albums might have better tracks, some stuff before it
might be more impressive, but it's the greatest combination
of everything condensed into an album. It's everything that
is defined by IDM, all into it. Ain't no other album that
is more than Drukqs. Not even confield.

...for me "Drukqs" is a big yawn, the first aphex-album I
didn´t buy...

"it's far from being the ultimate, even in aphex terms.
to me it sounds like a gimmick album...
- - - ...sounds more like he opened a folder, dragged and
dropped them onto a cd and sent them off to warp."

- a perfect description! (avril 14th is nice though)

i still rediscover this album from time to time. it's
unique. dunno who did it, was it his g/f or b/f or was it
brian the tradeskin - but it's unique, good job Rich, good
idea leaving an mp3 player on a plane (i still believe that
lol). the ultra-fast track moments are still mind-blowing,
after these 6 years. ACE and NICE

I mostly like the piano tracks, Bbyddhhonnchoord and Taking
Control. The rest sound like RDJ showing off his programming
skills.

Few other albums come close technically and there certainly
aren't any others (with the possible exception of BoC) where
listening to it years later on a good system I notice as
many "new" details that I had previously missed.

Also, whilst I don't normally go in for the whole "listening
to tracks at 33RPM/-10%" nonsense, this is one album where
the level of complexity deserves analysis at slow speeds
(and indeed I still find it interesting as 'music' rather
than just technically). I like it at -32% best, quite a few
fairly conventionally programmed breakbeats in there amongst
all the sampling, as well as a few of the synths start to
sound more like stuff off analord than drukqs.

and you're right, some of the Drukqs tracks get another life
when played at slower tempo

you'll maybe never here on a cd.?? like the orb, live, he
kicks ass.

from the interviews ive seen/heard....sounds like he'll
never stop making music, its his number one love.

there are so many artists that make there best stuff in
their 40's 50's ...who knows what's around the corner?

fweqy.

his stuff now a days sounds more drukqs than anything else.

ending horns on vordhosbn
girl voice as synth on meltphace

oh, and something i never noticed on meltphace is that those
real real quiet and slow, soft synth notes repeat throughout
most of the song.

they're just tucked away so far it took me 3 years (even
after memorizing the track) and being wicked bliffed-out to
notice it.

they start at 20seconds,
dooo doo doooooooooo doo .... dooooo dooo dooooooooooooo

but they loop throughout the last 1/2 of the track

Some of the tracks are great, but as a whole I don't think
the LP is as good as the Richard D James album, I was
expecting a more futuristic style like Windowlicker, whereas
it was a bit too organic and warm sounding for my tastes. I
love "Taking Control" tho.
