Due to extensive use of the old searchengine. Thank you!

Stupid. Was it someone doing it to deliberately bring the
site down or was it just some fool who decided to ignore
your warnings last night?

you have to wonder how stupid some people are...it is
obvious the search engine was taken down for a reason other
than to allow regulars to feel special by using it with the
other method. People need to think a bit more.

I didn't know it killed the server, anyway ok I won't use it
anymore...

Thanks man :)

tridenti: Why did you think the search engine was taken away
from the main site? Did you think phobia was just stopping
people using it for no reason?

I know tunemx created another search function but the search
could not be sorted by date... at least it's better than
nothing and a lot better than this google search.

If the search messageboard window is unlocked people won't
use the search link anymore I guess.

what is xlt running on anyways? mysql? not a bunch of text
files, i hope.

haha yes it is mysql. there are a rather large number of
posts though and I beleive the table containing the posts
wasn't indexed which is why there are problems now. I
beleive phobia and tune are still trying to work it out.

You're right man, honestly I never thought about it.. but I
always saw people using the search engine without problems,
I read also some tunemx's post where he said we could use
it.

Phob: anyway if you don't want people use it, why you don't
block it?

I bet you tridenti hatched an evil scheme to bring down XLT
so that he could start up his own BOCTOBERBOARD and force
people to migrate.

maybe not search for more than one word?

how am I making a bad use of the search feature?

in other words... what can I and cant I do with search
feature?

I tend to use it with that link someone posted in a thread
months ago

I paste the url to search... is this making xlt bleed?

I am thinking exactly the same things.

The search is disabled therefore you are not meant to
use it at all, ever, until the new search is available. Not
only does it kill the site with overuse it slows the site
down for everyone else while you are using it.

I'm guessing the search code uses up a lot of bandwidth,
which is why the search is disabled.

online big from lsg on 2005-09-11 05:14 [#01719936]

the search is just bad because the words arent indexed as
with google, or whatever

When will donators be recieving the refunds to compensate
for this inexcusable downtime?

Well.. I suppose I can't help but feel partially responsible
making the (2nd) topic that asked about searching... so you
are forgiven this time. Just don't let it happen
again... I have to post overtime now to make up for all the
time I missed.

I'd rather have a search engine than... avatars or
something.

I might had missed the thread where you said not to use that
link then, cos I thought we had been encouraged to use those
links

Guys, I just found this thread where ours Phobiazero
informed us with his warnings about the old search engine,
now I understood everything about it, I hope more people
possible can see this my post, because phobia is deleting
all post containing that "address" with search engine. It
means we must really stop to use it otherwise the server
will die. Cheers.
