erh.. what would you say is a "dangerously high"
temperature for a cpu, and doesn't it have some kind of
safety thingie if it overheats that turns it off?

it's a pentium d 820.

I'm reading intels pages trying to find some info, but
they're really messy, so I thought I may get some info here
before, as you are all such 1337 h4cksxoer043desX?

computers suck

What are you doing that you would worry about this?

I just have NO idea what the temperatures should be, and I
also have NO idea whether or not I actually installed that
fucking fan correctly...

I beleive anything above 40 degrees C is bad for the 820.

ah.. hahah!

I'm completely blasted today.. I can't make sense of

so at what temperatures should I be alarmed?

hehe.. yeah, but only because that was the cheapest, and I
needed something that ran quietly... you can't get quiet
"out-of-the-box" computers...

Anything above 60 should cause concern...anything above 65
the computer should be shutting itself off (I wouldn't
recommend testing this though :P) Modern processors run
hot, its a fact of life.

you can, some company makes a nearly fanless comp with
noiseproofing material in the case. i forget the name tho,
and it costs an arm and 2 legs.

hmmm... I had it at 68 celsius when coding some video, and
that monitoring stuff went off with some alarm... the thing
about that, though, is that the threshold for the alarm can
be set manually, so I don't know if I should trust it...

68 is too hot...you might need better cooling.

Why doesn't the manufacturer mention the max temperatures in
the instructions?

I had to search for it as well, took me about a month to
figure it out, and I'm still not 100% sure.
