erh.. I was thinking I'd set up dual screens on the new comp, but for some reason, if I check the "expand desktop to this screen" thingie when having selected the second screen, and then press ok, it just reverts back to not having that checked. the screens both work, and I get image on both of them, but.. they both show the same image, and they both identify as 1. if I set the resolution too high, the secondary screen gets that annoying "out of range" thingie.. it's slightly older, but it should still work if I can get it to act as a separate screen...
the screen card is a MSI Radeon X300SE 128 MB.

yeah, there's one dvi and one regular.
however, I have two crts, and there's an adapter from the dvi to normal connector... the screen plugged into the dvi is screen 1, and works perfectly.

Yeah should work fine with the converters however I have the same set-up and sometimes the videocard seems to spin out going analogue? digital? a? d? etc etc. Are you setting it up thru XP in control panel or through specific videocard control panel software? XP usually works but if you cant get it going have a look for a video card specific coontroller.

I'm tempted to make one of my long, detailed, 100% bullshit official xltronic "tech help" posts, but they take a lot of effort.

When you have your second monitor selected, make sure you have it set as monitor 2 set up as monitor two.
1-> Highlight the second monitor in the display properties.
2-> In the little display section, make sure the setting is;
"2-(fill in crazy section with whatever it says on your computer) - Secondary"
3-> Make sure the first monitor is selected as primary in the little checkboxes in the bottom, and the second one says extend my windows desktop onto this monitor.
Also, make sure the monitor is pluged in and powered up when you turn your computer.
I remember having to do a couple different wierd things when I got my second monitor running. I don't know if that advice is of any use at all, but it might help.

yeah, I think the problem is that the second monitor is treated as being the first one... there is only one monitor showing in that system thingie; the computer thinks there is only one monitor, and thus shows the same image and uses the same settings on both monitors.. I tried installing drivers for one of the monitors, but I just ended up with both monitors sharing the one driver.

2x400 mhz according to card specifications.
I have no idea what a ramdac is, though.
