So I spent the whole night getting the infamous autechre
max/msp patch to function properly. I synched it up with
reaktor and some other stuff(supercollider) and just let it
generate some hardcore idm.

I took the recording and mastered it a little, added some
compression etc etc, and some 30 mins later I had this :

idm

The only mastering I did was to bring forth the sounds,
cause they were very "silent". I havent touched the freqs,
although I would if I wanted to make a real song with this.

And yes, it was only a matter of 30 minutes, ask oyvinto he
witnessed it over msn.

I imagine I could make some very "good" things with it if I
wanted to, just slice things up and give it some real
arrangements/progression and stuff.

If it was an mp3hree I'd like to see how 'ep7' it is.

I don't know if it's copyrighted, I doubt it since I believe
it's stolen.

ymenard : I got from those sneaky russians, great people!

wMw : can't you get an ogg plugin for whatever player you're
using?

i think those pathches have been posted here on xlt earlier.

So copyright ceases as soon as something is stolen? As far
as I was aware the patch was incomplete and created with an
earlier verion of Max/MSP. The original samples supposidly
produced from it where far better than this effort :P

offline MongoloidBaby from Savannah (United States) on 2005-09-04 07:57 [#01714896]

this track basically proves to me that i have a willingness
to accept basically having every single "rule" of music
broken in the creation of a song, and still end up liking it
quite a bit.

I think he meant it was written for private consuption only
(and then stolen) and therefore copyright wouldn't have been
required - no-one else being supposed to see it.

it makes some really neat sounds, but it's not as good as
autechre. if you could have the patch make something as
good as an autechre album, that would be way better. it's
interesting.

I don't think they ever copyrighted something they did not
plan to release, doesn't make much sense.

Copyright isn't something you have to do, you automatically
hold the copyright to your creations provided you can prove
you originally created it (applies to absolutely
everything). You may be getting confused with patents.

I believe you have to register it with a copyright office if
you want to sue someone for copyright violations however,
something I doubt they have done for a patch that was never
meant to leave their circle(or something)

You don't have to, it just helps because it dates the work.
As I say provided you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt
that you were the creator of the patch etc. you are covered
by copyright law.

in the eyes of the law, theoretically, just having created
it gives them the copyright, but i don't know if they'd be
able to win a court case with just that information. Still,
legally, it's copyrighted to them.

are you sure? i doubt whether law is as advanced as to be
able to make those kinds of judgements.
a while ago i had a chat with a friend who studies a
combination of law/ict, and it was about the issues involved
in that area. although it was about copyrighting websites,
the same problems will hold, i guess, for music made with
generative software. where do you draw the line between
what's stolen and what's not? where can the law draw the
line? i'm not sure whether something which is made by
copyrighted generative software is automatically also
copyrighted by the same instance.

This is great! Why bother trying to do something original
when you can suck the shitstains out of Rob and Sean's
discarded underwear?

I'm sure they'd be real impressed and ask themselves, "wow,
how did these shitstain sucking weasels manage to do that?
we have no idea, lol"

I hope you got that this was not serious try at making "idm"
from my side, I'm just letting people in on how this stuff
is.

I've previously stated that I do not wish to make serious
music like this, I like electro. But it's good fun to sit up
all night getting these things to work, has some mystery to
it you know.
