Rewiring Max/MSP into Logic 7

Hi-

Ok. My anticipated workflow at the moment is to generate
"sketches" in Reason using the Combinator structure and some
"seemingly" advanced re-routing / modulation ideas. From
there, I like to go to Max and rebuild on these ideas,
making the timing engine more mature, while triggering
simple FM sounds in MSP, until I get a basic idea of what I
want the sound, rhythm, etc. to be like...

Now here's the next (and unacheived part) I want to take
this "engine" and rewire it into Logic so I can have the
same timing, but control better sounding instruments / kits.
Has anyone had any success with rewiring Max into Logic and
controlling say, Ultrabeat, Battery, or other larger AU
synths. If so, how is it done?

With this Max "engine" I'm looking to blur the lines between
process and composition, but want to def. make more beat
oriented / organic / generative tracks ala AE (and their
infamous max-patch but with better sounds), Syndrone, or say
someone like Aoki Takamasa and what he did in "Silicom Two"

Thanks in advance

gl0tch

Why use Rewire? Why not just midi?

Sounds like you're on Mac - surely there's a Mac program
that can work as a virtual midi patchbay so you wire the
out-port on Max to the in-port on Logic... on Windows I use
Midi Yoke for that to route Max into Reaktor.

Or is Midi timing too loose / various other reasons?

I guess that work actually! Though my experience with Midi
in Logic has come directly through a hardware controller,
not max midi messages which I intend to be using...

i know that you can use live with max running and simply
input whatever max has got open via lives midi channel. not
sure if thats rewire but it works very well.

Yeah, thats the plan. Have Logic open and all the midi data
Max is spitting out gets sent into there. Essentially, I
want Max to exist as the performer of the instruments
hosted in Logic.

Yeah, so now i know. You could probably use it any sequencer
then , well at least to some effect.

I think i found the solution to this. As long as you have
both Max and Logic open, in the Environment window you can
get Logic to "see" the Max midi messages and from there,
route them to the respective AU instruments. DOPE
