OK-

I had a discussion with a friend about this movie. Are the
"beings" at the end of this movie aliens or advanced robots?
They looked strikingly similar to the dudes who were making
the clones in StarWars II. Just curious what the consensus
was. I thought this was the dopest part of the movie.

i think it was left deliberately vague.

oh, and the only thing that could make that ending good is
if Lucy Liu did full frontal nudity in it, and it would
still be pretty damned crappy...

heck, not even Lucy Liu tribbing with Jessica Alba would
make that ending above average...

aliens. but, the movie is so shitty the only thing worth
pondering is why it was made at all. kubrick rolls in his
grave.

why can't "aliens" also be "advanced robots"?

anyway, it was a disappointing film.

Well I thought it was aliens too. Dont get me wrong, I'm
not saying I liked the movie. I just thought the
hyperdimensional shapeshifting autechre aliens in search of
tron 3.0 were the shit.

I'm pretty sure they say flat out that they are robots.
Can't remember specifically when. Keep on talkin about
their history, and then Jude Law was like "In the end the
only ones that will be left is us"

I think spielberg did a sweet job. Obviously it's not as
good as it could have been had it been 100% Kubrick but yo
-

robots.

they don't seem to say either way definitively, but i went
back and read the script, and now i think they were
probably robots.

either way, meh...

come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn he made it nto a kids film, YAY
triumph over the evil man and throw stuff at him

all of his films, except jaws probably have shitty kiddy
bits in them
,even minority report, that was a great film, but then he
had the 'lets burn some hamburgers with the jetpack' bit and
it made me squirmmmmmmmmmm

yeah, speilberg kinda sucks at making grown up movies.

for what it's worth, wiki thinks they were robots
(androids) too.

In the commentary, I believe, Spielberg says they are
machines.

Yeah wasn't it stated that they were machines created and
built by machines or something like that.

o yes it would!

i don't know what tribbing is, but it sounds sexually
orientated. anyways, that, and only that ending would make
it noteworthy.

if there's one movy which should be remixed by cunningham,
this is it

...as long as he leaves the liu vs. alba ending untouched.

I think I can live with a prospective future where machine
intelligence is so evolved it enters into ontological powers
/ perspectives, etc. That would be rad. Thinking of this
shit makes me want to write better electronic music.

I think Cunningham was right. He should have done it all in
that house.

What difference does it make if they are androids, cyborgs,
aliens, robots, holograms, mental projections, ghosts... is
it "ohh, they were robots at the end... maybe it
wasn't such a shit film after all"?

They were robots, its mentionned in various places,
including a Spielberg interview. Not the commentary,
Spielberg doesn't do that. Its just the "skinny elongated
bodies with big heads that march gracefully = Aliens"
mentality thats in the mainstream.

It changes everything if they are robot... THINK about it,
for them, he like a primitive ape unfrozen, a previous
version of them. Why is he the only one, what are his
feelings, what are his motives, why his motives?

Anyway Kubrick's ending was great, but a fucking downer with
him giving his mother pills and his blurred vision of the
world they recreate at the end (no father, etc..). In fact,
considering the absence of fatherhood in many spielberg
movies, I'm surprised you didn't see that aspect in the
final draft.

I know, that kind of blinkered thinking has led to such
repression and retardation in social development. If Joe
Public could just accept that not only fictitous aliens are
graceful skinny bigheads, but also fictitous robots, then I
think finally we could all, as a race, just fucking move on
and bring about the realisation of cool stuff like skinny
robots with big heads.
