there's no use in being afraid of it. what is there to fear.
eternal damnation? nothingness? it would be nice to know if
your conciousness will continue to exist on some other plane
of existence or if you will get reborn or something.

but yes, dying as a process frightens me.

There's no use in a lot of what people do.

i cant say im afraid of dying.

i have to remind myself sometimes to make the most of each
day, not take it for granted because death doesnt just wait
at the end of your bed when your old and run out of things
to be doing.

i have a neurosomatic self-preservation reflex through which
i'll experience the physical sensation of fear in response
to the threat of death, but otherwise the apprehension i
feel about death is similar to the feelings a kid would have
when starting at a new school where everyone and everything
is unfamiliar.

just because there is no use in being afraid of
something doesn't mean you will not be afraid of it... it's
not like you had total control over your fear and could
choose what you fear and what you don't.

i can't say i'm afraid of it; i'd be more afraid of, say,
getting caught by the police for whatever and having to go
in prison. or becoming tetraplegic. or stuff like that. but
i can't say i've ever been close to death either.

I'm not afraid of death, per se, actually I can't wait to
find out what it's like and feel the emotions associated
with it and see what happens on the other side. But I really
fear the end of my life. I really like this existence. And
I'm afraid I'm going to die in a less than cool way, I'm
scared that I'm going to die rudely. Wrong time, wrong
place, wrong way.

if you rationalise most of your fears you'll find that they
are useless (except of course if your afraid of crossing a
big highway with lots of cars then your fear is useful
because it makes you more cautious when crossing the road).
but you're right, it's not like we're made of rock or
anything. i suppose what i was trying to say was that i
don't see any reason to fear death; it would be counter
productive to living (not sure whether counter productive is
the right term to use but hopefully you get what i mean).

offline Anus_Presley on 2005-08-21 11:47 [#01702213]

you don't see any rreason to fearr death? because if we
didn't fearr death then humans wouldn't exist anymorre.

inevitable.

no but that doesn't mean therre's no rreason to fearr it.
everry living crreaturre fearrs death. to say you can't see
any rreason seems crrazy. surrvival of the species.

offline Anus_Presley on 2005-08-21 11:58 [#01702226]

It's too easy to comparre the fearr of going to a new school
and the fearr of death when you'rre sat in yourr house in
the UK on the computerr. The fearr of death is grreaterr
than almost any fearr going. Ok, you could say... it's the
fearr of being HURRT to death that's scarry, but it boils
down to the same thing. I'd be morre frrightened having a
killerr with a gun to my head (painless death), than walking
into a new classrroom, although the rresponce is chemically
the same it's to a much grreaterr degrree.

but if we weren't afraid of death at all, people would kill
themselves a lot more than they do now... maybe people
wouldn't mind risking death hazards and in the end there
would be more deaths... it could be counter-productive as
well, no?

we can't know for sure, just believe.

(just for the record, i'd prefer non-existence to a horrible
afterlife, or even to eternity. eternity... now
that's something scary.)

((and just for the record, i'm not sure what "just for the
record" actually means.))

i think it's 100% sure that there is nothing at all after
death, and that everyone that contemplates a possibility of
afterlife is just refusing to accept that death means the
void of all consciousness. now you might call me a stubborn
cunt or say "but I think that there is SOME KIND OF
CHANCE THERE MIGHT BE..." - no. it's just not gonna happen.
the brain dies, the soul is a fairytale and it's lights out.
fear rationality!

When watching particularly gruesome films I often think, ooo
I wouldnt want to die like that. But its nothing really more
than a thought.

Im not afraid of not existing because:
1) because I wont know anything about it
2)Im not particularly making use of my existence in any
constructive way anyway.

i guess it all depends on what you believe happens to you or
your essense when you die -
i am inclined to believe that when you die, thats it - you
cease to exist - the actual being you are has come to an end
-

on the otherhand, why would you fear this? i think dying of
eventuality is the only thing that keeps me alive. thats why
i dont fear it.

all i know is i can't avoid it so hopefully when it happens
it'll be fucking crazy cuz you only get to die once and it
should be cool when you do!
